ICJ landmark ruling today that Israel systematically discriminates against Palestinians. So our MP's should take actions to: *Support immediate Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories, call for a ceasefire and permanent end to the unlawful killing of civilians in Gaza & West Bank. *Cease our government's assistance for their illegal occupation (i.e. stop licencing for selling arms & dual purpose items to Israeli military). *Cease trading in resources gained from the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories (i.e. support boycott, divestment & sanctions) https://lnkd.in/etbtGcgW

Ukraine moves closer towards becoming the 125th State Party to the #ICC Rome Statute after the Ukrainian Parliament adopted bill 11484 partially implementing the treaty into domestic law, a condition to complete the ratification process. ❗ Next step: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should sign this bill into law & deposit the ICC Statute instrument of ratification with the United Nations. ☑️ Ukraine will then become the 125th member state of the International Criminal Court the 1st day of the month after 60 days from deposit ➡️ 1 January 2025 if the deposit happens in October. The Coalition for the International Criminal Court looks forward to welcoming Ukraine as an #ICC member at a time when the Court is under further threats and sanctions. We call on Ukraine to reconsider using Article 124 of the Statute that is contrary to the spirit of the treaty. For more on Art.124 📄 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5RNcN8V

What we ultimately have in this ICJ opinion, on the face of it, is a strong set of findings condemning the Israeli occupation and the continued presence of Israel’s civil and military administration, its settlements, and all of its associated colonial infrastructure in Palestinian territory as illegal. That gives rise to a whole set of obligations for Israel itself to withdraw and make reparations, and — assuming that Israel isn’t going to readily comply with those obligations — also for other states engaged in any form of relations with Israel. Thinking back to the point about making the best tactical use of what the law does offer, Palestinian movements, scholars and global solidarity campaigns were quick to emphasize that the ICJ advisory opinion in practice requires trade suspensions, financial divestment, economic sanctions, and energy and arms embargoes.

The ICJ and ICC judgements are clear. There is no future for Israel based on the narrative of its radicals.... anyone who claimed or wants to claim new territory exclusively for themselves will only find eternal war, violence and destruction, whereas the moderates at both sides hold the key to peace by non-violent interaction and dialog. The only way out of the conflict is thus to learn to live together as equals and to share the country as one union. Practically, it means in my opinion to go back to the times of Canaan and establish (democratic) autonomous local communities and flexibly spread them over the entire territory of Canaan. These autonomous communities can coexist and come together in two confederations of communities (nations), an Israeli and a Palestinian one, both sharing the country as a union, this is a hybrid outcome with elements of both a two- and a one-state solution. There is space for all cultural identities this way without any minority versus majority issues. Currently, such scenario seems very far fetched, but, the Israelis and Palestinians belong to Canaan and nobody outside is waiting for an(other) exodus of any of the two. www.canaan.community & www.pax.ngo & www.convergence.ngo

The Palestinian National Council has confirmed that the Israeli occupation has officially begun implementing its plans to annex West Bank lands as part of the annexation plan announced by the extremist minister Bezalel Smotrich. In a statement, the council noted that this escalation involved the seizure of 94 dunams of agricultural land in Beit Jala, west of Bethlehem. The council condemned this act as part of a systematic settlement policy aimed at entrenching the occupation, violating international law, and undermining Palestinian rights. It called on the international community to take immediate action in response to these violations to stop these crimes, demanding the imposition of sanctions on the Israeli occupation government to compel it to comply with international resolutions.

A comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan must be based on the principles of international law and those upheld in the Helsinki Final Act. The unilateral concession of Armenian sovereign territory to Azerbaijan is unjust and unacceptable and only serves to further embolden the Azerbaijani dictator to continue its genocidal policies against Armenia and Armenians. It is high time for Canada and the rest of the international community to once and for all step up to the Azerbaijani regime and impose sanctions to contain its aggression and destabilizing policies in the South Caucasus.

War is the continuation of politics by alternative means. Ensuring the ICC's focus would be on the political leadership of Netanyahu's coalition, would be the obvious path through this situation. My assessment and interpretation of Sigint from elements of 8200, IDF and ShinBet is (their belief is) that this is a politicians war. The prevailing notion is this is connected to the Netanyahu and Mubarak families who have created a deal to secure gas of the Gaza shelf. IDF's primary objective is to secure Israeli citizens. IDF rank and file's assessment seems to be leaning towards securing the flow of weapons between Egypt and Gaza via Gantz coalition leveraging political means. This would enable IDF to achieve their objectives while reducing their individual exposure to ICC related risks; by avoiding an invasion of Rafah. I have also been working on explaining the Leahy law and its ramifications to the Israeli aid bill. My belief is the key stakeholders are now working on the side of peace and reform inside the IDF and Gantz coalitions. https://lnkd.in/ecWS6pNk

Today, the Netherlands, Ukraine and the European Commission are co-hosting the international conference ‘Restoring Justice for Ukraine’ in The Hague. Foreign ministers and justice ministers from 57 countries involved in the fight for justice for Ukraine since the start of the conflict will voice their support for long-term efforts to tackle impunity and compensate victims. The Restoring Justice for Ukraine conference has two aims: 1️⃣ To take stock of the substantial progress made so far in investigating crimes, prosecuting offenders and coordinating international efforts to this end. 2️⃣ To achieve further progress on the objectives laid out in President Zelenskyy’s 10-point peace plan, on which – at Ukraine’s request – the Netherlands is playing a leading role. Illegal settlements have been one of the many ways Israeli leadership has been oppressing, illegally occupying, committing apartheid, and terrorizing the Palestinians over the last 75+ years. The world needs to hold them and Hamas accountable. Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve better leadership. “Policies and practices used by Israel in its occupation of Palestinian territories are in breach of international law, the United Nations' top court said in a landmark opinion Friday. The International Court of Justice said in its opinion, which was read out by Judge Nawaf Salam, president of the world body, that Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem, as well as "the regime associated with them" were established and are being maintained in violation of international law. The ICJ said Israel should cease all new settlement activities and evacuate settlers from Palestinian territories. It further said that Israel systematically discriminated against Palestinians and branded the occupation of the territories as "de facto annexation," and that Israel's exploitation of natural resources in the Palestinian territories likewise violate international law.” #leadership #destruction #genocide #famine #Gaza #oppression #terrorism #apartheid #occupation #Israel #Palestinians #accountability #endtheviolence #peace #endtheinsanity #warcrimes #humanity #returnallhostages #thereisabetterway

Good summary of the ICJ ruling below.
ICJ: Israel’s continuous presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful. This ends an old paradigm of two-sideism and that ending this violation of international law depends on hoping for the goodwill of the illegally occupying party rather than holding it accountable, applying the law and imposing international sanctions. That reality led us straight to #genocide. Today begins a new era based on one principle, Israel’s gets out of #Palestine.
