I have visited half of the entries my self from my beloved George in South Africa over the entries in Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, UK, Spain, Poland, Portugal till the entries from the USA. In many cases together with my friend Dan Munford and his team on their extraordinary market focus tours like last year in Boston while he was drinking water whereas i tasted the wonderful sandwiches from Alltown Fresh. With the majority of the other half of the entries I was able to talk recently about their mostly award winning formats such as with the wonderful Hollie Fox with the The Fox's Pantry @ BP Tugun during their visit with the UCB Stores (United Convenience Buyers) study tour group in The Netherlands and Germany. I see a pattern with all 32 entries they are all constantly leaving their comfort zone and are out in the world and are hunting for best practice and searching for the exchange with their peers around the world. This is why The Retail Marketeers are already preparing the exchange with their industry friends from around the world at the greatest show on earth at the NACS show from 7-10 Oct 2024 by visiting the best of the best not only roadside retailers during our westcoast swing. It is also noticeable that success seems to breed success as the majority of the entries are coming from areas where one can find a healthy #foodvenience competition such as in George, SA where Engen , FreshStop Convenience Stores , Shell and TotalEnergies are offering outstanding roadside retail experiences or Switzerland where the Valora Group is developing their avec #foodvenience format in a frog leap modus and pushing migrolino AG to go new ways as well. Same in Argentina with YPF and their 1,000 Full branded stores pushed by innovators like FGC Fuels Marketing and their outstanding format developments as well as in Denmark where Circle K and 7-Eleven Danmark are challenged by Q8 Danmark A/S and their phantastic collaborations with Meyers Bageri and Noahs a foodtech company, integrating digital food brands with advanced technology and smart kitchen architecture to revolutionize foodservice in convenience retail. And of course in the most advanced #foodvenience market in the world the island of ireland with their constantly innovating roadside retailers like Circle K Ireland and the Musgrave Group's formats challenged by Applegreen and their latest collaboration with Marks and Spencer and The Maxol Group with their latest collaboration with Dunnes Stores. A perfectly rainy day in Tokyo, Japan 🇯🇵 today… I couldn’t have picked a better day to prepare our bus tours for the 2025 NACS Convenience Summit Asia. Staying dry all day and hopping on and off my taxi to see the best and latest in convenience retail. Getting a glimpse of Tokyo Tower, hiding behind thick fog… Big thank you to FamilyMart Co.,Ltd. You can work against change or with change. Reusable takeaway solutions are becoming mandatory, but there are no ready solutions that also guarantee sustainability performance.
