DFG Japan’s Post

[event report] At the roundtable discussion "Promoting Gender Equality in Academic Appointments" held at Dokkyo University on 22 November, stakeholders of Japanese and German academic institutions came together to discuss the current situation and critical issues of gender equality in academic positions. The ratio of female to male in full professorships has gradually improved in both Germany and Japan, and the speakers introduced specific examples of how they have dealt with this. However, the panel also agreed that the situation varies between different research fields and that further promotion of diversity is necessary. The event was organized by 獨協大学 (Dokkyo University), Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo) in cooperation with Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation / DFG Japan and DAAD Tokyo.
