As we talk about population growth and control, we should also discuss how other factors contribute to it. Much research has shown a strong correlation between gender equality and population growth. Countries with better career and education opportunities for women, coupled with better access to reproductive health care, have shown to slow down the growth rate. However, in other countries where women have limited access to such tend to have higher birth rates. As we tackle inclusivity, we also wish to include in the discussion the future generations who might not be able to fully enjoy what we enjoy now if we don't take action in creating an Earth that lives and sustains lives. That includes having a world where women are live with respect, dignity, and autonomy in their choices. I wrote about the recent World Population Day in my newsletter "The Bonded Bulletin" where we discuss topics concerning empathy, inclusivity, and authenticity. World Population Day, observed annually on July 11th, serves as a crucial reminder of the challenges and opportunities posed by global population trends. With the current world population exceeding 7.9 billion, this day emphasises the importance of sustainable development, reproductive health, and gender equality. As of 2024, projections indicate continued growth, albeit at a slower rate than in previous decades. This day underscores the need for targeted investments in healthcare, education, and infrastructure to support burgeoning populations. Moreover, World Population Day promotes awareness about family planning and reproductive rights, essential for empowering individuals and communities worldwide. As we mark World Population Day, this achievement is crucial because access to family planning information and quality healthcare empowers young women to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. It leads to healthier lives, reduces maternal and child mortality, and promotes gender equality. By implementing these interventions, #PSKenya is not only improving individual lives but also contributing to the overall socio-economic development of our communities. #WorldPopulationDay2024 #BetterHealthandWellbeing NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT

World Population Day, celebrated every year on July 11, is meant to raise awareness of global population issues like family planning, gender equality, poverty, and human rights. According to the United Nations, the global population surpassed eight billion on November 15, 2022. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says, "Reaching a global population of eight billion is a numerical landmark, but our focus must always be on people. In the world we strive to build, 8 billion people mean 8 billion opportunities to live dignified and fulfilled lives." RWI Synthetics believes we must empower everyone to make informed decisions contributing to sustainable development. In a world of 8 billion, there must always be space for possibility. Upholding inclusive human and reproductive rights is critical to tackling our planet's enormous challenges and creating a world where good health, dignity, and education are realities for all. #WorldPopulationDay #Sustainability #Dignity #HumanRights #SustainableDevelopment

Adolescent health matters! Years have passed since the sustainable development goals were set globally, and progress has stalled in many areas including Goals 3 and 5 🎯 Addressing good health and wellbeing and Gender Equality are key aspects of achieving the SDGs As we continue to advocate for adolescent health, it is important to highlight these issues to raise awareness and mobilize support for adolescent health research and programs. Through our peer-led adolescent champions model, we are equipping adolescents with information to positively influence their peers cc Oluwaseun Osanyinro Halimat Omowumi Olaniyan #girls #menstrualhygiene #menstrualhealth #menstruationmatters #period #periodpoverty #menstruation

Important points. An interesting case study is comparison between East and West German fertility rates. With birth control rates fell in both populations in the 1960s, but in East Germany there were efforts to 'push back the tide', which caused rates to increase again... until 1989 and the fall of the Berlin Wall. After this East German rates fell quickly towards those in West Germany, and I think even overshot them: https://lnkd.in/e5ZUAuwx (See, esp, fig 1c)
The only 'solution' to the challenges brought about by low fertility is to ensure everyone's full potential is met and no one is left behind. Gender equity and youth empowerment are key components of that. Some people (and governments) seem to adopt the opposite approach. Imagine cajoling people to have more babies (who won't enter the labour force for >20 years) at a time of high youth un-/under-employment and declining female labour force participation? Please enjoy my nasal tones as I make this point in a video in 40-degree heat outside the Global Dialogue on Demographic Diversity and Sustainable Development in Dhaka last week. 🏆 New project awarded 🏆 📢 We are excited to announce we will conducting the mid-term evaluation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Supplies Partnership (2021-2030). The main goal of the evaluation is to assess the performance of the Partnership in providing support to meet the needs of women and girls for modern contraceptives 💊 and life-saving maternal health medicines🤰, and in strengthening the health systems🏥. The evaluation will examine the Partnership’s operational effectiveness and efficiency, as well as the promotion of gender equality ♀️♂️ and human rights in the context of the programme. 🎯 Key objectives: • 📈Analyze how the Partnership’s conceptual framework and theory of change have guided UNFPA support for procuring and funding commodities and measure progress towards desired outcomes. • 📚Capture good practices from the Partnership to inform future programming and implementation through 2030. Stay tuned for insights on how we contribute to improving reproductive health globally! 🌍 #GlobalHealth #evaluation #SRHR #reproductivehealth
