Companies should be measured by more than financial metrics, which is why Eaton has established aspirational goals. One of them is to be a model for #InclusionAndDiversity in our industry. I’ve personally seen the impact of our I&D goal through our Early Talent Programs. I have spent a decade working with #engineering talent across the globe, but our Engineering & Technology Early Talent Program has a special place in my heart. The passion, drive, and commitment to a better future for our world is a shining hallmark for the participants who come through our intern, co-op, and rotational development programs. Another area where I have seen and felt the impact that our focus on inclusion and diversity makes a difference is in our Women in Engineering Awards program. I have had the privilege to chair the committee for the last couple of years and our 2024 awards were a record setter. With over 500 global nominations, 24 unique winners globally, representing 23 separate businesses across 8 countries; these awards were not only impactful to the award winners. Our winners represent the future of #Eaton and the future of #WomeninSTEM at Eaton. They are standard bearers for our Engineering & Technology Early Talent and represent the bright future #womeninengineering have at Eaton. Read more about how myself and others are making a difference in Eaton's new Global Inclusion and Diversity Transparency Report which shares our journey through transparency to impact: https://lnkd.in/gVDCQmqq

The Growing Role of Latin American Engineers in the U.S. Tech Industry The shortage of engineering talent in the U.S. is a persistent challenge, compounded by a lack of diversity in the workforce. To address this gap, U.S. companies are increasingly looking beyond borders, tapping into the wealth of skilled engineers from Latin America. These professionals bring high levels of expertise and motivation, often at a fraction of the cost compared to their U.S.-trained counterparts. Recent studies show that hiring international talent can boost efficiency, productivity, and innovation for U.S. firms. Our database of over 2,000 engineering professionals highlights that many of these talented individuals majored in fields that directly align with areas facing talent shortages in the U.S. While there are clear cost advantages to hiring Latin American engineers, we must also consider the long-term impact. Are we ensuring a diverse workforce, or are we unintentionally fostering a system that exploits lower wages? How can we balance the need for talent with ethical hiring practices that uplift these bright professionals? As global hiring continues to evolve, these are critical questions for companies seeking to build inclusive and sustainable teams. #GlobalTalent #EngineeringExcellence #DiversityInTech #LatinAmerica #TechRecruitment

In honor of National Engineering Month, we're thrilled to showcase the exceptional talent within our engineering team. Today, we're highlighting Jonathan Anderson, who recently shared some insights into his work with us, here are a few highlights: What makes working at LCE fulfilling for you? "Cyber and Electromagnetic Activities is where all current and future battles will begin and be won or lost (. . .). The work I am involved in allows me to positively contribute to our customer's ability to gain superiority over the electromagnetic spectrum and improve their knowledge and performance in the domain. I find this particularly rewarding." What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering? "Simply, my father (an engineer). I've always been good at math and science and had initially wanted to be a doctor. Some youthful missteps ended that journey and I spent next 10 years searching around what I wanted to do with my life in terms of a career. Engineering made the most sense and when I was looking at going back to school to obtain re-training." What aspect of engineering do you find most challenging, and how do you overcome it? "Managing stakeholder expectations and dealing with unknowns that are out of your control or have little visibility on. Typically these are business and market forces that can have you pivot and change direction at a moments notice." Can you share a memorable or rewarding moment from your engineering career? "The training I delivered to a customer was met with significant gratitude." What personal motto guides your approach to engineering? "Do it right." What advice would you give to aspiring engineers? "Learn as much as you can. If you aren't assigned a mentor find one. Scour the landscape of your employer, it should be clear who has impact in your business, and go develop this relationship. " What skills or qualities do you believe are essential for success as an engineer in today's industry? "Problem solve effectively as conditions change" We're truly fortunate to have such a talented and diverse team driving innovation here at Leonardo Canada Electronics. Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight more of our brilliant engineers throughout National Engineering Month! #LCE #NEM2024 #engineering #engineer

Happy International Women in Engineering Day! When I attended University in the late 90's, there was one woman on my STEM course - I then went to work in the North Sea as a Field Engineer in the 2000's, and it was exceptionally rare to see female engineers doing the same role I was. Thankfully, over the years I have seen this start to change, and I been fortunate enough to be placed in a number of positions where I could help in driving that change: 1. When I led the wireline business in the UK, 32% of engineers recruited during my tenure were women. Their performance on the job was exceptional, and many of them have gone on to successful careers in the company and beyond. I learned that to be successful in diversifying the workforce, it is important to consider the following: ✔️ Start early with University Recruitment - attend recruitment events and engage with candidates ✔️ Hold assessment events that are designed to objectively test the "whole candidate" - we called ours the "Baker Hughes Experience". This helps reduce the effect of any unconscious bias in the assessors. ✔️Recruit more than one female engineer at a time, and preferably more than 3 for any given work group to provide sufficient peer mentoring and a sense that they are not going it alone. 2. When leading the Training and Development team for the Oilfield Services and Equipment segment, the team developed new opportunities for skill and competence development for Field Engineering and other critical technical roles. This new framework provides open access to development opportunities irrespective of employee background. 3. I, along with other senior leaders in the company, have the privilege of mentoring female engineers and leaders across the business. This ensures we effectively build our talent pipeline, while providing equitable access to development opportunities for our talent. We can all do more! Let's continue to encourage and support women and girls to reach their full potential in engineering careers. Together, we are taking energy forward. #INWED #STEM #WomenInEngineering #DEI #WeAreBakerHughes

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting an inspiring young, talented up and coming Engineer Kelen who truly left a lasting impression. I had been following her journey from the sidelines (on linkedin) and invited her to lunch. Kelen’s story is incredibly captivating. Arriving in Australia with limited English, she was determined to kick-start her engineering career here. Through relentless networking and patience, she seized an opportunity with a well-known engineering firm. Today, she's thriving and making a meaningful impact in the community through her inspiring work and she is a great ambassador for young women Engineers in particular international Engineers / graduates. Her passion, wholesomeness, humility, and gratitude shone through. She is destined for big things and I look forward to cheerleading her on. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is connecting with such fascinating and inspiring professionals that not only excel in their fields but also embody what it means to be exceptional human beings. She reminded me of the transformative power of passion and dedication. Surrounding yourself with positive energy is truly infectious. During our conversation, we delved into topics like networking, community involvement, and the challenges of finding talented Engineers. We explored potential collaborations and shared insights into how we can both do our part to support those in need (candidates and clients), and community initiatives. If you admire someone's achievements and wish to learn from their journey, invite them for coffee or lunch. The power of networking can open unexpected doors and create meaningful connections. #engineeringcareers #acceleratinggrowth #communityengagement #sunshinecoast #collaboration #womeninengineering Kelen Marczak Polli
