A Historic Day at COP29 in Baku 🌍🌱 Today, I had the incredible opportunity to attend COP29 — a gathering of global leaders, innovators, and changemakers focused on tackling one of the most urgent challenges of our time: climate change. 🌏 The energy at the event was nothing short of inspiring. From thought-provoking discussions to groundbreaking ideas on sustainability, it was clear that the world is united in the fight for a greener future. I was especially moved by the collaborative spirit of the delegates and the diverse solutions being presented to protect our planet for future generations. From renewable energy innovations to strategies for climate adaptation, the future is hopeful and within reach — but only if we act now. As I reflect on today's experiences, one thing is clear: the road to a sustainable world requires all of us to take action, no matter how big or small. Work leaders have always been warned by experts. Experts have been consistent in sending warning messages but protectionalism amd geo financial power have continued to put the word especially future generations at risk of a catastrophe. Seems those responsible for GHG emissions are not just ready to act on their commitments. We sit on a time bomb with countries of the developing world severely at risk of a public health disaster. Until now, I didn’t know my country produce such amounts of GHG but from what and how? We don’t discuss this and probably communities are not aware of this. No one is sounding the alarm and yet we sit on an impending judgement. Right now we are experiencing the worst drought in decades, yet we act business as usual in both policy and communication to those who urgently need the message and worst affected. #soundthealarm#

Week one of COP29 has ended, and while oil and gas might be viewed as “gifts of God,” the science is undeniable: Fossil fuels must stay in the ground. Solutions are everywhere, and cities – home to over half the world’s population – have immense procurement power to drive real change. Through the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance and our wonderful partners including Arup and Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki, VELUX, Built by Nature and more we’re heading transformative climate initiatives: from bio-based building materials (check out our city handbook!) and electrified transport to innovative food and waste systems. The Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP) launched at the 2023 UN is key to climate summit (COP28) to delivering solutions rapidly in cities.
