🌍 Transforming Healthcare in Madagascar: A Collaborative Effort to Support Pregnant Women in Sakamasay 🤝💙 At Doctors for Madagascar, we are committed to improving healthcare access and quality for vulnerable communities. In our intervention at the Primary Health Center in Sakamasay, we are making a significant impact on maternal health with a multi-faceted approach: 1️⃣ Echography for All Pregnant Women: We are providing essential ultrasound scans for every pregnant woman, ensuring that both mothers and babies receive the vital care they deserve. 2️⃣ Sensitization Campaign: We are actively educating and empowering pregnant women to give birth at health centers, ensuring a safer and healthier delivery for both mother and child. 3️⃣ Strong Collaboration: This initiative is a powerful partnership between Doctors for Madagascar, Community Health Volunteers, and Local Health Agents. Together, we are creating a sustainable healthcare ecosystem that works to improve the well-being of every woman and child in the region. ASSESSMENT: 🤰 Maternal, newborn deaths linked to “insufficient care” 🌍 Despite global efforts, inadequate maternal and newborn care persists. A new study in Tanzania in which Ifakara Health Institute scientist Dr. Dunstan Bishanga contributed, reveals critical gaps in facility readiness. 🚨📉 The study assessed 30 high-volume facilities in the country and found that overall readiness is at 69%, with regional hospitals performing the best despite deficits in amenities, equipment, and staffing. The study calls for comprehensive measures to improve care for mothers and newborns. It urges immediate action from the government, partners, and stakeholders to address the observed deficiencies, by selecting the most feasible and effective interventions. MSIE committed to strengthening Public-Private Partnerships in Health MSI Ethiopia Reproductive Choices, through its USAID-supported Quality Health Activity (QHA) project, participated in the National Consultative Meeting to review the revised Public-Private Mix Guidelines for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health Services. The updated guideline introduces critical improvements, the inclusion of pharmacies as public-private-mixx facilities, and clear roles for stakeholders. It also strengthens legal frameworks, improves supply chains, and aligns with national priorities such as universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. Key discussions addressed implementation challenges, integration of the public-private mix model into existing systems, sustainability strategies, and improved monitoring frameworks. As a member of the national technical working group, MSIE shared insights to ensure the guideline is comprehensive and practical. The finalized guidelines will drive impactful partnerships and improve access to health services, advancing Ethiopia’s national and global health goals.
