The Endowments has awarded a $750K grant to POGOH to help expand bikeshare access across the Pittsburgh region. This funding will support a capital project that adds 50 new stations, giving more than 80K people access to charged electric POGOH bikes within a ½ mile of their homes. Forty percent of the new stations will be in economically challenged communities. It’s an exciting step towards a more equitable, sustainable & bike-friendly Pittsburgh! As you will know by now, I am a bit of a parkrun addict! I even plan holidays round them. But I also get excited about completing the unofficial park run challenges. These are set by member of the parkrun community and are not affiliated with the official milestones, where you get a t shirt for completing so many events/volunteering. There are so many out there and a few we have completed recently include: Namely - parkrun starting with each letter in your name Alphabeteer - parkrun starting with a different letter of the alphabet (except X as there are none) parkrun - parkrun starting with every letter in parkrun compass - a park run with North South East and West in the name It gives me a great sense of achievement to add to my collection of challenges, and see some of them tick off slowly (like date bingo). #PermittedDevelopmentRights. A game changer for accelerating the development and lowering the cost of #cycling and walking #infrastructure. Using the same process farmers use when building a new track through a field The Strawberry Line network of paths in Somerset has found a way to speed up planning permission and harness the goodwill of the community....and with the hard work of volunteers a kilometre of new route can be opened in six weeks.. Under this model, planning permission needs to be granted only for those sections of path that meet roads, which can cut delivery from decades to weeks. Once they have been decided on, the paths can then be built by local volunteers, with expert guidance. While it can cost £1m per kilometre for a National Highways-delivered cycle route, groups such as the Strawberry Line can deliver one for £170,000/km. The project is driven by the force of nature behind the National Cycle Network, John Grimshaw with Caroline Levett. #activetravel #infrastructure

🚀 ParkRun Milestone 300 🏃♂️ Last week, I celebrated my 300th ParkRun milestone! Over the past six years, I’ve consistently run 5km every Saturday, covering a total distance of 1,500km through these weekly runs. Reaching this milestone has given me the opportunity to reflect on some key personal achievements: 🔹 Discipline & Commitment: Committing to ParkRun every Saturday morning isn’t always easy. Whether it’s cold weather, the temptation of a lazy morning, or the comfort of staying in bed, it takes real discipline to get up and get moving. Even when traveling, I enjoy exploring different ParkRun courses, both nationally and internationally, incorporating them into my trips when it fits naturally into my plans. This approach has allowed me to maintain consistency while experiencing new environments along the way. 🔹 Building a Community: ParkRun has allowed me to connect with like-minded people from diverse backgrounds. Through these interactions, I’ve gained valuable insights and built lasting friendships. 🔹 Pushing Boundaries: Always giving 100% has helped me achieve various outcomes—whether it’s finishing first, breaking the 20-minute barrier, or reaching a respectable age-graded score. 🔹 Giving Back: Volunteering has also been a key part of my ParkRun experience, whether through barcode scanning or marshalling. Giving back to this community has been a fulfilling way to support others on their own journeys. ✨ Just as ParkRun fosters personal achievement and growth, applying these same principles in the workplace can lead to a fulfilling and successful career—where continuous improvement, excellence, and development are always top priorities.
