🏞️ Day 4 of Our 2024 Highlights 🏞️ Earlier in the year we completed a brand-new asphalt area in Sherdley Park, commissioned by St Helens Council. This pristine space, completed in March, looked absolutely glorious in the spring sunshine 🌞—and for good reason! The newly surfaced area is set to be transformed into a skatepark, a project announced by the council in 2023. This exciting development is part of a broader effort to enhance recreational opportunities in the park, providing a vibrant hub for skaters, BMX riders, and the local community to enjoy. We’re thrilled to have played a part in laying the groundwork (quite literally!) for a facility that will bring fun, fitness, and connection to so many. Projects like this remind us of the importance of creating spaces where communities can come together and thrive. Stay tuned for more of our 2024 stories as we count down to Christmas! #SherdleyPark #StHelensCouncil #2024Highlights #BuildingForTheFuture #ActiveCommunities

The third #ActiveFeock focus group this week focused on Health & Wellbeing. We had clinical professionals, CCG representatives, Arthritis Trust, the Environment Agency, Councillors and members of the local community in to feed into the session and help shape what Active Feock can be. Well surfaced paths which are free of trip hazards and barriers, which drain well in wet weather and close to people’s homes were desired. They should provide the opportunity to enable brisk walking to help people raise their heart rate and gain physical benefits. There should also be frequent places to sit or rest as well as interesting features or views along the way. Good information on available routes was also desired so users can choose the most suitable route for their needs or abilities before setting out. Circular routes are also preferred to ‘there and back’ tracks. With the information from this focus group and that gained in the Environment and Cycle Links sessions, we’ll now be pulling this information together to help further shape Active Feock and come up with a set of prioritised proposals to help the first enhancements to get delivered. #ActiveTravel #HealthyCommunities #Nature #Walking #Cycling #ConnectingCommunities Inner Circle Consulting Sustrans Cornwall Council #LevellingUpFund #CommunityCapacityFund Environment Agency #HealthandWellbeing #Feock #FeockParishCouncil #Cornwall

Dream Big - Impact Lives and Your Community 4 years ago a group of us at a board meeting for Coalition 4 Cyclists came up with a BHAG (Big Hairy Audatious Goal) to put a separated bike way along Highway 36 from Boulder to Lyons. We were sickened by the number of deaths and car on bike impacts on that stretch of road - one of the worst in the country. It was just a dream and it seemed somewhat insurmountable at the time. We are not there yet but two major milestones happened this year: 1. The feasibility study. 2. Approval from the County to start the design. We are moving this thing forward slowly but surely. There is a light at the end of the tunnel that looks like 2029 for completion. The lesson? Big ideas need a vision and the grinding will to push it forward. If you truly believe in it, you can make it happen. My heart is full of pride in my little not for profit in Boulder that had the vision, raised the money needed to seed this process, and pushed this rock up the hill. We will save lives and truly positively impact the community I live in.

55,000 tennis balls from Wimbledon are upcycled into tiny homes for mice - we 💚 this positive upcycling story Instead of discarding thousands of tennis balls after the tournament, many get repurposed as tiny shelters, providing a safe haven for wildlife like small harvest mice. 🐭 💬 Dr Simon Lyster, Director General of the Wildlife Trusts, said: "In recent years it has been under increasing pressure and we hope that by specific harvest mouse projects such as artificial nests we will provide them with the help they need to survive." It's a brilliant example of how we can rethink waste and create value in unexpected ways. #CircularEconomy #Wimbledon #Upcycling #HarvestMice #Sustainability #PositiveNews

For her birthday this year, one of my friends asked for something truly impactful — a simple but meaningful action: writing a positive review about the new Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) in West Ham Park 📝. Most of my network knows that Newham has one of the poorest air quality records in London, and it's crucial we take steps to protect this community's health. LTNs are a way to make streets safer and cleaner, especially for our children. It's about reclaiming the space that was once dominated by cars and making our environment more walkable, breathable, and accessible for all. Sadly, as we’ve seen in other areas like Hackney, these changes often face resistance from people who don't live in the affected communities. The residents of this new LTN have witnessed organised vandalism targeting cameras and lampposts, which only highlights how these actions are motivated by outsiders, not the locals fighting for cleaner air and safer streets. LTNs temporarily shift traffic, but what they truly reveal is just how much of our urban space was taken over by cars. Let’s think of the majority — the pedestrians, cyclists, and residents who benefit from cleaner air and safer neighbourhoods. LTNs aren't just about reducing traffic; they're about giving streets back to the people. Let's support positive change! Share your thoughts on the LTN and help create a safer, healthier West Ham Park. 🌳 You can submit a review as a resident or a visitor. It's important to show the Newham Council that there are many supporters of these initiatives, in and out of the borough! #LTN #LowTrafficNeighbourhood #CommunityFirst #ForestGate #CleanAir #SustainableCities #Newham #Westham #SupportLocalInitiatives
