After last night, we all need a good news story. "I get to wake up and everything's different now.” - Jesse Vincent. Thank you CBC for telling Jesse's story. Thank you Shelter Nova Scotia for giving him a place to call his own 💗 THIS is a fabulous example of what Downtown Halifax's Navigator Outreach Program can achieve when we all work together. https://lnkd.in/eb34K-U8

✨A Successful Week in Supported Living!✨ This week, I’m excited to share a significant milestone—I've just collected the keys to three properties from a property investor! These homes will soon be offered for supported living, providing much-needed accommodation for vulnerable individuals and families. Today, I’m heading to County Durham to meet with a supported living provider. The goal? To finalise a lease and house families who are currently homeless. Ensuring that these families have a safe, stable place to call home is not just a job for me—it’s a passion. With extensive experience working with families in crisis, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact that stable housing can have on vulnerable populations. It's more than just providing a roof over someone’s head—it's about offering security, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild lives. If you’re a provider or property investor looking to collaborate with an experienced and passionate team who values providing quality homes and quality support, let’s connect! Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. #SupportedLiving #HousingSolutions #HomelessnessPrevention #VulnerablePopulations #PropertyInvestment #MakingADifference

Poverty is a policy decision...
The city of Denver's #guaranteedincome pilot for unhoused residents is a huge success–a year in, nearly half of the participants have secured housing! As Economic Security California Director Teri Olle explains, there is real power in "giving people money and trusting them" to build a better future for themselves and their families.
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.

Curious about housing, homelessness, planning, community development (as a concept) and the policies & decisions surrounding these issues? Here are a few books I have found that have helped me gain a better and deeper understanding (and could perhaps help you) of where we've gone wrong, and where we can course correct to make better informed decisions to create improved opportunities and living conditions for our neighbors, friends, loved ones and other humans we share this space with: 1. Color of Law (Richard Rothstein) 2. Homelessness is a Housing Problem (Gregg Colburn/Clayton Aldern) 3. The Sum Of Us (Heather McGhee) 4. Fixer- Upper (Jenny Schuetz) 5. The Warmth Of Other Suns (Isabel Wilkerson) 6. How the Other Half Lives (Jacob A. Riis) 7. Yes to the City (Max Holleran) Any other suggestions? Leave them in the comments. Happy reading...and also; anyone have a housing reading group? I'm looking to read, contribute, and join!
