"Humility makes us stronger leaders, rather than weaker ones. People don’t expect their leaders to be infallible, but they do expect them to be honest. Steve Munby puts it well in ‘Imperfect Leadership’ (2019), when he says that we are all imperfect, but we need to accept and embrace that. The most important thing is that we reflect, we keep learning, we adapt and we determine to go on to be even better in the future." My advice for those aspiring to and applying for leadership roles, in the latest issue of HWRK Magazine:

Tagging in here! I also recenttly participated in the fabulous leadership workshop led by Lori Abshire, MBOE. I learned a lot about not only myself but also my colleagues, who are now friends as well. ❤️ Here's the statement I developed: Drawing from a background shaped by diversity and adversity, I lead with resilience & empathy, recognizing the importance of each person's unique story. My style is characterized by authenticity & humility, emphasizing genuine respect & collaboration over formalities. I value celebrating small wins as significant markers of progress & believe in using data to inform decision-making and problem-solving. Drawing from my own experiences of feeling out of place, I aim to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. Continuous personal growth & development are central to my leadership philosophy, as I learn from past experiences while maintaining focus on the future. Ultimately, I measure my leadership not by titles or accomplishments, but by the positive influence I have on those in my sphere.
I recently attended a leadership workshop hosted by Lori Abshire, MBOE. It was a unique experience where I got to write my own leadership statement. What was great about this experience was working with people in my department I do not usually get to work with. I learned about those coworkers and myself. Figuring out the leader I want to be. Below is my statement. (I wrote a poem) In the rhythm of leadership, I find my way, Adapting, like the changing day. Assembling relationships of mutual respect Conducting hearts to be bold Trust intertwines a note in our symphony A bassline of dependability keeping us steady Diverse ideas flow, creating a harmonious melody Open minds float all around forming a slow consistent tempo A ballad of emotions played for all to hear
