Jack Soslow from a16z believes the moment is ripe for ARVR apps. I wholeheartedly agree. In his well-thought-out thread on X, he presented strong arguments about the market potential of AR/VR and the advantages of investing now. Here's a quick summary of what he highlighted, but I highly recommend reading the entire thread on X: https://lnkd.in/gz_y3uDy 🧐 Underestimated Market: Past setbacks have led many to overlook ARVR, yet Meta's ~30m Quest headset sales showcase strong market potential. 📈 Sales Growth: Meta's sales soared from 2M units in 2019 to 13M units in 2022, with a strong rebound in early 2024, driven by the Quest 2, an older yet popular device. 🎮 Youth Engagement: VR retains adolescent users as well as consoles do, suggesting a solid foothold in younger markets. 🚪 Entry Barrier: Success stories like Gorilla Tag show top VR games can be made with little to no funding, demonstrating a low barrier to market entry. 💰 Developer Returns: VR has enabled over 40 developers to earn >$10m; the platform offers lucrative payouts per developer. 🧠 Natural Fit: Humans have evolved with 3D spatial reasoning, making VR a natural extension of our innate capabilities, enhancing learning, and design experiences. 🤖 Tech Integration: VR blends digital and physical realities, ideal for applications in robotics and immersive tech. 📊 Market Potential: As VR tech matures and becomes more accessible, there's potential for new platforms to emerge, similar to early iPhone apps that defined their sectors. ⏱️ Strategic Timing: With low competition and high potential for returns, now is a strategic time to launch ARVR initiatives. Hit me up if you are starting or investing in a AR/VR business! #augmentedreality #mixedreality #virtualreality #spatialcomputing #applevisionpro #VisionPro #metaverse #a16z ___ I'm Alex Chuang, Emmy-winning XR Producer, Co-founder of Shape Immersive, award-winning AI & 3D Studio I share the latest insights in #spatialcomputing daily. Announced at Meta Connect 2024 last week, Meta is launching a new VR app called #Hyperscape that renders recreations of real-life spaces in high fidelity, so you can explore them while wearing a #Quest headset. #Hyperscape will soon let you use a #phone to scan a room and then recreate it. Alternatively, you can step into a room that someone else has scanned and shared. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg showed a “hyperscape” onstage of rock band Green Day’s studio. “We’re also bringing photorealistic spaces to the metaverse, and we call this hyperscape,” Zuckerberg said. “It’s pretty wild, and we’re planning on just adding more and more over time.” Some anonymous friends at Meta described further: “By utilizing Gaussian Splatting, a 3D volume rendering technique, we can take advantage of cloud rendering and streaming to make these spaces viewable on a standalone Quest 3 headset,” the post reads. “In the future, creators will be able to build worlds within [our VR platform] Horizon.” Obviously Hyperscape is compatible with the Quest 3 and Quest 3S and we are PUMPED! #gaussian #splatting #render #cloud #spatial #storytelling #tech #innovation

Following Meta's recent announcement, I wanted to highlight the exciting news about Horizon OS! Meta is taking a big leap forward by opening up Horizon OS, the operating system powering their VR experiences, to third-party hardware manufacturers. This move signals a shift towards a more open metaverse, encouraging collaboration and innovation. Here's what this means: 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗥 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Get ready for a wider variety of VR headsets from brands like Asus and Lenovo, all running on Horizon OS. 𝗔 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗥 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: With more players involved, expect a surge in VR app development and a richer user experience. 𝗔 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲:The Meta Horizon Store will become the central hub for VR apps, accessible across all Horizon OS devices. This is a significant development for the VR industry, paving the way for a more accessible and diverse metaverse experience. What are your thoughts on Meta's decision to open up Horizon OS? Share your comments below! Stay tuned with us for more exciting updates. Video credit:- Meta for Work #Metaverse #HorizonOS #VR #Meta #OpenMetaverse

It was wonderful to see lots of exciting announcements to come out of the recent Meta Connect conference. One of the most significant announcements is the Meta Quest 3S headset, which incorporates most of the great things about Meta Quest 3. The Meta Quest 3S offers a similar experience, with the same powerful Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, 8GB of RAM, and full colour passthrough, while opting for slightly less advanced displays and fresnel lenses to achieve a lower price point. This is fantastic news for enterprises as it lowers the barrier to entry for integrating VR into their operations. I'm thrilled because this will drive both consumer and enterprise adoption over the coming 12 months. In the short term, we are looking forward to seeing this translate to more uptake of Liminal VR as a tool for mental health and wellbeing in schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings. We've seen great adoption in the last six months and I anticipate that the affordability of the Meta Quest 3S will accelerate our growth and see further adoption of the mental health and wellbeing use case for VR.
