Government published its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan on 13 December ❗ These are the key points 👇 • It confirms National Energy System Operator's definition of clean power, where 95% of generation comes from clean sources. • It provides a Review of the Electricity Market Arrangements (#REMA) update, stating zonal and national pricing remain on the table and both have “equal weight”. A reformed national price would include changes to transmission and distribution charges, and government states “no change” is not an option. • Through an energy consumer lens, the Action Plan focuses on delivery of consumer-led flexibility (demand-side response, or #DSR). It states there will be a 2025 review of the application of final consumption levies for batteries and electric vehicles as these are not reimbursed when these assets export to the grid. • It also focuses on enablers such as the market-wide half-hourly settlement programme, smart meter rollout and standards, and government plans to publish a consultation on consumer engagement in the summer. • Capacity Market documentation was published on 16 December, consulting on the diversity of DSR technologies. Energy providers are constantly improving—pushed by the growing demand for more electricity. Beyond advancing innovation, companies must also contend with changing regulations on transmission ratings and power flow. Over multiple collaborative projects, EPRI developed a methodology that produces a range of ratings options for companies to meet both National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements and internal key metrics. So when Duke Energy Corporation sought greater consistency across states that had previously developed ratings methods independently, it reached out to EPRI for help. EPRI developed a methodology that produces a range of ratings options ranking from low-risk options that may reduce power flow to higher-risk options that can increase capacity, reducing congestion and potentially deferring other costly capital upgrades. 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐬 A microgrid is a local, delimited transmission grid that can be disconnected from the overlying grid when needed or desired and continue to be operated with locally produced or stored energy and is defined by three key characteristics: 𝟏. 𝐀 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥, this distinguishes microgrids from large, centralized grids. Centralized grids push electricity from power plants over long distances via transmission and distribution lines. Delivering power over long distances is inefficient because some of the electricity, up to 8 to 15 percent, is lost during transportation. 𝟐. 𝐀 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭, a microgrid can be disconnected from the main grid and operate independently, acting as an “island”. This means that those connected to the microgrid can be supplied with electricity even in the event of a power outage in the main grid. 𝟑. 𝐀 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭, the intelligence of a microgrid comes from the microgrid controller, which is the central brain of the system and controls the generators, batteries and nearby building energy systems. The controller orchestrates multiple resources to meet the energy targets established by the microgrid’s customers. Such goals can be; lowest cost, cleanest energy, greatest electrical reliability or something else. We have batteries and EU5 compliant generators that can be used in a microgrid application, and by renting instead of buying you limit your financial risks, and you can easily scale the solution based on your current needs. There have been a number of articles and commentary in the past week talking about the opportunity that the new government has to reset the role of batteries in the UK electricity thinking. But they need to act fast. https://lnkd.in/eJZefu7p At the same time they aren’t getting the help that they need from the infrastructure operators. This FT article is particularly damning - years of under investment perhaps and not enough coherent drive from Ofgem? https://lnkd.in/evPjV7Fe The UK has a real opportunity to make smart grids at micro and macro level a thing of the present. But it does need government leadership. Taking over the system operator is hopefully a sign of future direction. Mr Milliband we look to you to support the innovation and investment that this country needs. #netzero #powervault

Virtual power plants are coming near you. And they will reduce your electricity bills plus make power morereluable. Thanks to Jigar Shah for explaining this VPP benefits in a simple way. Enjoy. Pinakin Patel President and CEO T2M Global
Lowest cost way for Utility and Regulators to handle load growth and lower rates for everyone. The distribution cost avoidance is conservative in this study. Distribution should be by far the largest portion of the cost avoidance from the VPP in CA, less generation. "More than 7,500 MW of VPP capacity could be deployed cost effectively across the state over roughly the next decade. That’s significantly higher than the capacity of the largest power plant in California, and higher than the total system peak demand of Los Angeles." "All five VPP technologies considered in our study make material contributions to the total potential. This technological diversity is a benefit of VPPs if adoption of one technology lags behind expectations, accelerated adoption of a different technology could offset the impact." "The inclusion of additional VPP technologies would increase the potential estimate. For example, vehicle to grid capability could advance to the point of commercial deployment over the next decade, which would dramatically increase the contribution of EVs to the total. Standalone energy efficiency programs, while outside the scope of our study, also could significantly increase the potential estimate if targeting savings during peak hours. Thermal energy storage, behavioral demand response, and managed EV fleet charging are other potential sources of “virtual” capacity." #VirtualPowerPlants

Did you know that nearly 10,000 Dutch companies are currently waiting for a grid connection due to grid congestion? It will take years for grid providers in the Netherlands to expand and meet energy demands. Because electricity use is increasing faster than the grid can expand, and this need is expected to grow even more. Grid congestion occurs when demand is greater than supply or when excess energy can't be returned to the grid. This situation limits electricity availability, impacting business operations or expansion, electric vehicle charging, and energy return capabilities. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) play a crucial role in helping companies avoid long waiting times for grid connections. BESS stores electricity when demand is low and supplies it when demand is high. This allows companies to manage their own energy use without waiting for grid upgrades. It's a direct and quick way for businesses to manage their energy needs and contribute to grid stability. Are you dealing with limitations due to grid congestion? Reach out to us so we can analyse your situation and find the right battery solution that fits your business needs. #Gridsolutions #Energymanagement #BESS #Sustainableenergy
