Ever think about what happens to old products? 🌍♻️ Crocs has an innovative answer: Their ‘Old Crocs. New Life’ program. Here's how it works: 1. Bring your used Crocs to any retail location in the continental US or use their no-cost mail-back option. 2. Enjoy a 10% discount on your next purchase! The gently used Crocs will be donated and the worn-out pairs will be upcycled into new products. This initiative showcases how brands can reduce waste and promote a circular economy. Instead of tossing out old garments, consider giving them a new lease on life through upcycling or donation. Upcycling is a fantastic way to get creative and transform old clothes into something new and unique. From turning jeans into stylish shorts to repurposing fabric for DIY projects, the possibilities are endless! It's not only fun but also reduces waste. Another great option is donation. By donating clothes you no longer wear, you can help someone in need while promoting a circular economy. Your unwanted items could be just what someone else is looking for. This post from Queensland Environment on Facebook presents these important questions we can ask ourselves before adding new items to your wardrobe: ✔ Do I need this item? ✔ Have I learned the basics of clothing care and repair? ✔ Could I get my clothes professionally altered to fit better? ✔ How can I restyle my existing clothing or home furnishings to extend their life? Have you tried upcycling or donating your clothes before? Check it out here: https://rpb.li/ub1G29 #SustainableFashion #Upcycling #ClothingDonation

Clothing and textiles make up about 7% of the total landfill space in the world, and consumers are not the larger contributors here. The retail industry is the single largest contributor to textile waste and produces about 92 million tons of textile waste every year. Of that 92 million tons, 87% of those materials used to make clothing end up in landfills. This isn't even the start of the negative impact that the consumerist culture that the retail and fashion industries have built their legacies upon - but that is a different story for a different day. Anyone who knows me knows that reducing both consumer and retail textile waste to net zero is my largest passion in life. I'll talk your ear off about sustainability and how as individuals, we can do little things every day to peacefully coexist with our planet - just ask. One of my favorite ways to do that and combat textile waste is the For Days Take Back Bag, a program where you buy a bag for $20 and instantly get $20 from their monetary reward system that you can spend (currently) only on their merchandise. I am aware that most people intend to combat unnecessary waste by donating to secondhand shops like Goodwill, but in reality, the majority of clothing donated to Goodwill will end up in the trash. This is especially true if the clothing is old or damaged. Even though the Take Back Bag is a great option, not everyone has the time to go through the long online return process. So that's why my school, the University of North Texas, is starting to place textile donation bins around the CMHT building and hopefully the whole campus! I am extremely proud of UNT College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism and my professor Dr. Iva Jestratijevic for starting this initiative to reduce textile waste of those associated with UNT to zero. I am very thankful to be part of a College that supports sustainability and actually follows through with the changes that they promise. Hopefully, we can eventually reach this goal of zero textile waste at UNT. Next, let's get the UNT College of Visual Arts & Design in on this! ** All data taken from theroundup.org **
DYK 34 Billion pounds of clothing and textiles are thrown out each year in the U.S.?? The Center of Consumer Insights & Innovations (CCII) at CMHT is launching the first Zero Waste Textile Initiative. Look for pink bins like these where you can discard your clothing, shoes, accessories and textiles. Stay tuned to learn more about who will benefit from these donations! #untcmht #untccii #untmerchandising #sustainablefashion #zerowaste

Hello Denver friends! Nude Foods Market legendary clothes shop, swap, and consign event is coming to our DENVER store on September 21st from 10am-1pm! We will have a free section with clothes to donate and take, as well as a consignment section where you can sell/buy! Register ahead of time for 10% off your groceries in store that day, and we ask that you definitely register ahead if you’re consigning clothes! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gXxRM9cJ “You’re a grocery store, why are you having a clothing swap?” Well, our mission over here is to reduce waste, especially plastic (which is made from oil 🤢). And textile production generates 95.6 BILLION (with a b!) pounds of plastic waste per year, making the textile industry the second worst industrial sector after packaging. And most of these cheap polyester clothes that are being put out into the world release microplastics into the water which make their way to the ocean. Rather than contributing to waste or buying from unethical and unsustainable clothing companies, we want to help people opt for more eco-friendly fashion choices! Getting things second hand is one way to do that!!! #zerowaste #clothingswap #ethicalbusiness #sustainablebusiness #denvercolorado #denverevents

Where does unused fabric go?🤔 Tons of fabric from production or unsold stock are often discarded. Many organizations and companies donate this excessive fabric to charities and non-profit initiatives. These fabrics are used in: ✨ Skill building (like sewing and craftsmanship) ✨ Fashion projects ✨ Humanitarian Aids (like bedding, clothing and different products for underserved areas) In third-world countries the role of this donation is 🟢 Creating employment in the textile sector 🟢 Social enterprises that uplift women and underrepresented groups 🟢 Upcycling practices. Although this discarded fabric creates a lot of opportunities But on the other side after the usage, it ends up in landfill. #sustainable #sustainability #recycling #fastfashion #fashionbrands

PLASTIC BAGS Declutter your plastic bags. (Often stored under the sink or in the kitchen) Gather up all of your bags. Decide how many spares you actually need. If you struggle to part with many - ask yourself what could be using this space instead of all of these bags? Try confining the bags to one area in the cupboard (you could try the tissue box trick - https://lnkd.in/g6v5rpyU) Those you don't want and are in usable condition, see if a local charity shop can reuse them, otherwise they go in the bin or to Terracycle in one of their mixed boxes. (You have to purchase the recycling boxes).
