Last month OWC's global #WindandSite team hosted its annual internal get-together - a time to foster collaboration and discussion on innovation, efficiency and the continuous development of the team's expert service offering to onshore and offshore wind. 🍃 Our wind and site team supports #WindEnergy projects across more than 36 countries in the advanced analysis of a site's energy yield and wind resource potential. The results of which are critical to determining the commercial feasibility of a wind farm. Our Head of Wind and Site, Okan Sargin, was in town to lead the proceedings, and comments on what was discussed 👇🏼 💬 "Over three dynamic mornings, our exceptional young team presented and contributed to technical advancements and innovative strategies. Innovation Director Tim Camp led the sessions on practical approaches to innovation within wind and site, and Engineering Manager James Rinkel detailed our engineering capabilities and future vision. We believe the world needs wind. And as we head to WindEnergy Hamburg, we’re noting that many European countries have made significant policy commitments to leveraging wind power to help address #ClimateChange. We have customers, employees, suppliers, facilities, and projects across #Europe, and we look forward to discussing how we can continue to contribute to the growth of #wind power in the EU during the upcoming conference. In #Germany, GE Vernova has recently received orders for two projects featuring the 6.0 MW-164m workhorse #WindTurbine, among other orders. After two demo units of this #WorkHorse product were installed in 2021, 26 further units were commissioned as “fleet leaders” in late 2023 in the Netherlands. With a focus on continuous improvement, the learnings from the demo units were implemented into the fleet leader units. The results were impressive. The performance and availability of the units in the first nine months of operation in 2024 met the expectations of both the customer and our business. The units have now been sold to two customers in the fast-growing #German market. There is always more to be done as we incorporate further learnings from the fleet and move forward with GE Vernova´s workhorse strategy in Germany in 2025 and beyond. The GE Vernova team is looking forward to discussing our workhorse products as well as our improved service performance and shorter delivery times with our customers during WindEnergy Hamburg next week. This week, DTU got a new test facility—Risø Hybrid Power Plant. "Research is one of the most important keys to the green transition. Risø Hybrid Power Plant will help us develop the right technological solutions and make them scalable. It’s a test facility that will make a noticeable difference in the work of converting the energy system to 100 per cent renewable energy," says President Anders Overgaard Bjarklev. The Risø Hybrid Power Plant has: • two wind turbines • a solar power plant • an attached battery It is a small facility that can only produce electricity for the annual consumption of 200 households. The purpose of the plant is to develop and test new technologies before scaling them up to commercial full-scale hybrid power plants. Plants that will potentially supply several hundred thousand households.
