It's your first day in your new role as Chief Surveyor. The phone rings, someone from the commercial team needs help preparing a bid on a full spread geophysical survey. Multibeam, sidescan, sub-bottom and magnetometer, not to mention USBL, etc, etc. They need an answer by the end of the day. Where do you start? How do you figure out which sensor is limiting your vessel speed? How to know your maximum altitude for magnetometer to ensure target detection? What line spacing and vessel speed allows you to meet accuracy and resolution needs for each sensor? What techniques do you use to manage acoustic interference? How do you tame this Acoustic Mayhem? Our Ingdalen site of the #OceanLab #marine #observatory is operational again! 🤩 Field work can be a nightmare: things break, bad weather, malfuncting parts, you name it. Our observatory consists of two sites which were carefully chosen and equipped with sensors for environmental monitoring. Ingdalen, at the fjord ‘entrance’ has conditions that are significantly influencing conditions inside the fjord. We are very happy that the buoy is out again and producing data for us! The drone footage shows an exceptionally nice day out there. Thanks for sharing, Atle and all the good work Ralph and Muriel! Through our EU funded projects we will seek to share this data into international repositories like EMODnet and catalogues like NextGEOSS and #ODIS for use in Iliad - Digital Twins of the Ocean and EDITO - European Digital Twin Ocean. With this, the #observatory - and soon the rest of #OceanLab and #FjordLab - align with the latest standards for #datasharing and #datainteroperability and contribute to #FAIR data for research and blue economy applications.

I don't like being beaten by a fault which drives me to find and fix the problem. I also love working in large teams to achieve a common goal. *What has been your favourite project to work on?* Lochlan: My favourite project to work on with O'Brien Electrical Ballarat would be the Mars Main Bar line upgrade project in 2021. It was an exciting project that went over the course of 6-12 months installing new equipment to make Mars and Milky Way bars. *What's your favourite tool or gadget to use at work?* Lochlan: For me, I don't go anywhere without a radio or a speaker. It's the first tool taken out of the ute on a job and the last to be packed away! *What's something that is on your bucket list?* Lochlan: To walk the Kokoda track. *What's something people might be surprised to learn about you?* Lochlan: I have 4 dogs
