As we become part of the largest UK Agri-Tech Centre, we’re looking back at some of CIEL’s achievements: 🚀 130 members – Our community has grown to 130 members, uniting industry leaders, innovators, and researchers, dedicated to advancing the livestock sector 📈 51% membership growth – Over the last three years, we’ve seen an astonishing 51% increase in membership, showcasing the growing trust and value in our network 📔 7 thought leadership reports – Our reports have provided insight to guide the industry towards practical and viable solutions 💰 £9.2 million – Our efforts have successfully secured £9.2 million in project funding with CIEL Members, underlining our role in spearheading research and development projects that promise a better future for livestock production As we reflect on these achievements, we’re filled with gratitude towards our members, partners, and team for their unwavering support and commitment. Together we’re not just envisioning a sustainable and healthy future for the livestock industry – we’re actively creating it. ✅ 6 months at CIEL Six months in and I’ve loved it, I’m not just saying that because I’ve got bills to pay, I’ve really enjoyed my time here. From enhancing animal health and welfare to helping the agri-food supply chain to work towards a net zero future, we’ve achieved so much within the CIEL network. Here’s a list of my personal highlights at CIEL and why I love it here (because I also love lists): ✨I’ve actively been involved in shaping the new business. ✨I’ve worked on disseminating some seriously amazing projects that will change the future of food production. ✨Tasty Tuesday’s 🍕 ✨People get stuck in. You ask for advice, you get it. Ask for input, you get it. No nonsense, no ‘this isn’t my job’, or radio silence, just a great team that pulls together to get stuff done. ✨The CEO and leadership team take time to listen to our opinions and get to know you. ✨They embrace creativity and change. Embracing Innovation in Agri-business Recently, I stumbled on the use of Parabolic solar dryer for maize on Dr. Olabode Adetoyi's page. It's meant to reduce the moisture content of the maize to an acceptable level of less than 10%. I'm not too surprised because I've had the privilege of interacting few times with Dr. Olabode at Livestock/Agricultural Exhibitions across the nation, and he's place as a seasoned Agricultural expert and consultant is not debatable. Thriving on Mongolia’s Unique Livestock Sector for Future Generations Mongolia’s livestock sector, with its 1000-year-old tradition of nomadic herding, diverse species, and extreme weather conditions, is at a critical crossroad. Overgrazing and climate change are degrading the vast steppe, threatening food security and social stability. The ‘New Cooperative-Wealthy Herder’ program is a promising initiative, encouraging farmers to form strong cooperatives, prioritize quality over quantity, and capture added value. Key initiatives include: * Coordinating processing capacity at a regional level to avoid under-utilization and over-indebtedness. * Investing in equipment and ensuring training and maintenance for sustainable use. * Developing second-tier cooperatives like Eeltei Baylag Cooperative Network (EBCN) to benefit from economies of scale and connect with retail clients for higher returns. It helps prevent manganese deficiency, which can cause poor growth and yellowing leaves. Manganese sulfate is applied to the soil or as a foliar spray to enhance crop health and yield. In livestock farming, it is added to animal feed to support bone development, reproductive health, and enzyme function. LOW METHANE IN ACTION: “Within that cohort of our already top production and disease genetics, we then pick the ones that have the best methane," says sheep breeder Alastair Reeves.
