Clean energy incentives could be in Congress' crosshairs soon. But the projects they've launched are already creating hundreds of thousands new jobs. Thankfully, "well-paying jobs do enjoy some bipartisan support" w/ 60% of new projects going in GOP-held districts.

** Content warning: presidential politics ** I rarely offer political opinions in my posts for the same reason most reasonable people avoid the subject at work and at the table. You probably won't convince anyone of your views and you might get a case of indigestion. But a must-read article in today's NY Times by Lisa Friedman makes starkly clear what the stakes of the upcoming election are for the #cleanenergy and #climatetech sectors. For those of us on the front lines of the industry working every day to accelerate the energy transition, who's elected in November will have a profound and potentially life-changing impact. ✅ If you benefit from the IIJA and IRA and the policies, programs, and projects that they're delivering (in both red and blue states), this election matters. ✅ If you or a loved one earns a living in one of the 3.3 million clean energy jobs in the U.S. today, this election matters. ✅ If you believe that renewables and electrification are preferable to fossil fuel extraction and ignition, this election matters. ✅ If you're convinced that the public lands we preserve provide greater value than the money made from developing them, this election matters. But here's the thing: since everyone is affected by our changing climate, regardless of where you may live or work, there's much more at risk than just one industry. Think about that when you go to the polls. https://lnkd.in/e7xbuTyc

Congrats to Agnès Pannier-Runacher for surviving the latest government reshuffle. Energy policies need so-called "technocrats" who rely on facts and common engineering sense. It's a good news to see someone having time to implement her vision. #energytransition #energypolicy #france #nuclearenergy #energysobriety

It highlights the important role of clean technologies in achieving environmental and climate ambitions and bringing down energy costs for companies and households. It mentions a new Clean Industrial Deal to support industries in transitioning to cleaner technologies. This includes the Industrial Decarbonization Accelerator Act which aims to channel investment into energy-intensive sectors and speed up planning and permitting processes. Attention is brought to energy security. ⚡️ Efforts will be made to reduce energy prices by moving away from fossil fuels, increasing the need for clean energy. Back in May, we published our Action Plan for Carbon Capture, with the aim of raising awareness to the need of immediate, concrete policy solutions to scale up CCS in the EU. With the elections behind us, and the EU's legislative agenda and top jobs taking shape, we thought a quick reminder of our key asks could be useful. Our number one priority is to secure political support for CCS deployment in Member States. The time to #MakeCCSHappen is NOW, and political inertia can only work against us. To get the necessary political support, our Action Plan calls for: 1️⃣ The appointment of a designated CCS Envoy in the European Commission, making CCS a priority in the Commission's competitiveness agenda, with a clear direction on how to successfully deliver CCS across Europe. 2️⃣ Include CCS in the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), and persuade Member States about the business opportunities to uptake CCS. National policymakers should come up with clear targets and financial mechanisms to support the rollout of this technology. While Member States are still publishing their revised NECPs, countries need to continue pushing for more inclusive policies on CCS. 🔎 Interested? Read our Action Plan here: https://lnkd.in/gJx6yZNe

The European elections serve as a pivotal moment, shaping the direction of Europe's future endeavors and policies. As citizens exercise their democratic rights, the outcomes will guide the EU's course of action, reflecting the collective aspirations and priorities of its diverse member states.
📝 As we approach the EU elections in June, and given the fact that fair and just transition in one of the EU’s key priorities, should citizens’ views be taken into consideration by legislators and policy-makers? 🍃 15.000 citizens in #Germany, #France, and #Poland were asked to assess and rank 40 climate policy measures, during a survey, conducted by researchers from University of Oxford, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Humboldt University of Berlin), and Hertie School in cooperation with Jacques Delors Centre 🚗 According to the survey, in all three countries, the EU’s 2035 ban on new cars with internal combustion engines #ICE, is the least popular climate policy measure. Even though citizens are in favour of measures supporting new transport technologies, such as electric vehicles, they reject banning measures, that restrict their freedom to choose alternative mobility options and alternative decarbonization technologies. Today, the EU legislation counts on the CO2 reduction that renewable fuels can achieve when used in airplanes and ships, but assumes that no CO2 reduction should be recognized for renewable fuels when used in cars. Based on this assumption, ICE cars will be banned and electric vehicles will be the only option for all citizens, challenging the need of affordable and sustainable mobility for all EU citizens in a fair and just way. ICE cars fuelled with renewable fuels give the EU citizens the possibility to reduce their CO2 emissions and be part of the road decarbonization process at a much lower cost and to the extent they can afford, even with their existing cars. Then, why should this option be forbidden? Read the conclusions of the survey here: https://lnkd.in/erNGeguz #CleanFuelsforAll
