Dr. Durairaj Kumarasamy, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at SBSS, MRIIRS, has authored a research paper unveiling a pivotal analysis of South Asia's trade and connectivity in the wake of recent global shifts. His paper, published in the renowned Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, explores the layers of complex trade dynamics to reveal the interconnection between regional integration and infrastructure in the post-pandemic period. Navigating the nuances of economic interaction with an advanced bilateral gravity model and the rigorous 2SLS analytical method, Dr. Kumarasamy's research offers profound insights into how strategic reductions in cross-border frictions and enhancements in both tangible and institutional infrastructures could usher in an era of unprecedented economic synergy within the South Asian region. This study paves the way for a reimagined blueprint of economic collaboration, underscoring the transformative power of synchronized trade facilitation and connectivity reforms. It extends an invitation to policymakers and scholars alike to peer into the vital mechanisms that could fortify South Asia's position on the global stage. As Digital Public Infrastructure (#DPI) continues to gain momentum, its promise to drive GDP growth by 3-13% is only the beginning. Understanding its social and economic impacts, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is essential. That's why Co-Develop funded the Digital Public Infrastructure Research Lab (OxDPI) at University of Oxford’s Centre for the Study of African Economies, a pivotal step toward comprehensive #DPI research. Jordan Sandman highlights that the OxDPI Lab, led by Professors Stefan Dercon and Dr. Christian Meyer, will rigorously examine #DPI’s role in inclusion and wellbeing, starting with #Ethiopia’s Fayda system—an ambitious national ID initiative with support from the World Bank’s ID4D team. Collaborating closely with Ethiopia’s National ID Authority and international researchers, this lab will not only provide rapid, evidence-based insights but also shape real-time government decisions, ensuring DPI rollout fosters meaningful societal impact. 📈 DPI is more than tech—it's a tool for growth and inclusivity. Read more in Jordan Sandman's full article on the potential of Oxford’s lab to build a strong evidence base for DPI: https://lnkd.in/dKUdTgyE #DigitalPublicInfrastructure #ResearchForImpact #InclusiveGrowth #CoDevelop

🌱🔬 Multi-stakeholder High-level Dialogue 🌍✨ Matthieu Lafon, PhD. and Teele Tõnismann have participated in the Multi-stakeholder High-level Dialogue on "Engaging stakeholders to realize the potential of science, technology, and innovation". Held on April 23, 2024, at OECD, the dialogue brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including representatives from government, academia, industry, and civil society. In Breakout 2, titled "Equipping society in a fast-changing world," we delved into "Developing talent and promoting diverse research career paths in a world in transition." The highlight of the session was the unveiling of the Research and Innovation Careers Observatory (ReICO), a groundbreaking initiative where the European Commission and the Business and Finance at the OECD collaborate to address key challenges in nurturing and deploying research talent. We emphasized the importance of supporting both fundamental and solutions-focused academic research, recognizing the relevance of research competencies beyond academia, particularly in entrepreneurship and policymaking.🔬 #SustainabilityTransitions #Innovation #OECD #PhD #STI

I had the privilege of presenting at the Eu-SPRI 2024 conference at the University of Twente, where we delved into critical discussions about innovation and policy research. One of the highlights for me was the engaging debate on different perspectives on designing and governing innovation policy under increasingly complex circumstances. In my presentation of our policy paper "Missions with Impact - A practical guide to formulating effective missions" (https://lnkd.in/datXWfyw) written in cooperation with the Bertelsmann Foundation, I addressed the following key points: - Origins of Mission Inflation: How the rapid adoption of mission-oriented policies without adequate practical formulation and implementation experience leads to mission inflation. - Balancing Mission Objectives: The need to balance mission objectives, steering mechanisms, and incentive structures to avoid overburdening missions with parallel and non-consecutive goals. - Contextual Conditions: Understanding the initial and contextual conditions that are essential for a successful mission formulation process. Properly formulated missions are crucial for motivating stakeholders, fostering cooperation, and driving innovation across sectors. They should go beyond mere declarations of intent and be capable of addressing, motivating, and inspiring a variety of stakeholders in a concise format. I would like to extend my gratitude to the organizers of Eu-SPRI 2024 and to all the participants for their contributions to these enriching discussions. I am eager to hear your thoughts on this topic and to discuss further how we can collectively refine the process of mission formulation. Please feel free to share your feedback or contact me for more detailed discussions. #EuSPRI2024 #InnovationPolicy #MissionOrientedResearch #FraunhoferISI #BertelsmannStiftung Ralf Lindner Florian Wittmann Daniel Posch Bertelsmann Stiftung Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI
