💜Exciting News for Sierra Leone! 💜 The African Development Fund has approved a $19.95 million grant to boost job creation for youth and women in Sierra Leone through the "Job Creation for Youth and Women in Climate Smart Agriculture Value Chains and Waste Management" project. Key Highlights: 1. Focus Areas: Cassava, fisheries, and waste management value chains where women and youth are most active. 2. Gender Empowerment: 70% of project beneficiaries will be women, promoting gender equality and economic empowerment. 3. Capacity Building: Enhancing entrepreneurial skills and improving access to funding for MSMEs led by young people and women. 4. Market Access: Expanding market opportunities for youth and women-led MSMEs. 5. Institutional Strengthening: Improving the business environment and service delivery for entrepreneurs. For sure, you can’t go wrong with a Woman on your team. It’s a thing of joy to see the emergence and excellence of women in diverse fields. Women now making a grand entry into Tech, while others are becoming Doctors, CEOs, IT Specialists, Architects, Engineers, pilots, and more. Indeed,it is a wake up call for other Women to discover their strength, as well as an inspiration to the younger girls to dream big. Sista, You deserve your flowers.🌸💐🌺 This year’s International Labour day celebrations, is centred on ensuring workplace safety and health amidst climate change. It is worth noting that, climate change is not just an environmental issue but a work place issue, especially for African women involved in Agriculture. Despite being at the forefront, and exposed to enormous life threatening risks like droughts, flood, gender disparity, safety measures remain minimal. No better time than now to loud the gender gap faced by women especially in Cameroon’s Labour Market. 📍Women make up 71.6% of workers in the informal agricultural sector. 📍Only 3% of women own a house without a property title, and a mere 1.6% have a property title in their name. 📍The labour force participation rate among females is 67.3%, compared to 76.7% for males as of 2023. 📍There’s a noticeable earnings gap between men and women, especially in the informal labour market. Despite high participation rates, Cameroonian women face significant challenges in terms of ownership, earnings, and formal employment opportunities.
