The second offshore wind declaration area has been declared for the Victorian coastline today. The declared area is reduced in size to 20% of the original proposed area, due mostly to concerns relating to the proposed declared area's location in the Bonney Upwelling and its importance for blue whale foraging, together with concerns about commercial fishing. It will be interesting to see if this affects the number of Feasibility Licence Applications that are submitted for this area, and ultimately how many developers are awarded licences.

Globally, the offshore wind industry is booming, with the UK taking the lead, pledging to achieve 50 GW of offshore wind power by 2030. South Korea is also aiming big, as they are working towards generating 14 GW of offshore wind by 2030. In Australia, it was not until recent years that they began to recognise the vast potential of this industry for both electricity generation and new job opportunities. Currently, the only offshore wind target in Australia comes from the state of Victoria, which is targeting to produce 2 GW of offshore wind by 2032 and 9 GW by 2040. In the hope of becoming one of the renewable energy superpowers in the world, Australia is racing to develop its offshore wind industry and talents. Leveraging its massive potential as the next big market for offshore wind developers, it is attracting interest from the likes of Shell, Denmark's Ørsted and Norway's Equinor, especially with the first six offshore wind zones earmarked for future development. These six zones include: - Gippsland - Hunter Valley - Illawarra in New South Wales - Portland in Victoria - Northern Tasmania, Perth; and - Bunbury in Western Australia. With a national target of generating 82% of all electricity production from renewable energy by 2030 and onshore wind power accounting for only 10% of Australia's electricity needs, we are likely to see rapid developments in Australia's offshore wind market to meet the target. When the time comes, Cyan Renewables will be ready to support the industry with well-established expertise and local content to facilitate the country's transition towards a cleaner and greener future. Offshore wind production has mostly been limited to countries with shallow waters so far. Floating wind could change that. Here's my article for Euronews looking at the push to develop it 👇 https://lnkd.in/eNeb3bTa

Floating Offshore Wind!! Follow me on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gni_S56D Poised to be the next significant Industrial Revolution!! Without a Ports solution to support GIG scale execution, there is NO floating offshore wind! Without a launching and retreival solution that supports GIG scale delivery, there is NO floating offshore wind! Without a crane to suppprt GIG scale integration, there is no floating offshore wind! From Concept to Decommissioning this comes down to: - Operational safety - Maximizing local content - CO2 reduction - Air quality for port communities - Port water quality - Reduction in CAPEX - Reduction in OPEX - Optimized DEVEX - Less reliance on overseas supply - Less reliance on Carbon Credits - Reduction in LCoE for consumers Bardex have simple pragmatic solutions based on existing scalable technology that supports a very short ROI that could lead to ports making hundreds of millions of dollars at a Gigawatt (GIG) scale while also benefiting developers who could save hundreds of millions. This solution has the potential to significantly reduce the CO2 footprint for the ports and for every floating offshore wind platform installed, impacting the entire life cycle of the wind farm. It also reduces the reliance on Carbon Credits up to the final decommissioning stage, enabling the saved funds across the life cycle to be utilized for lowering LCoE and boosting the local supply chain, thereby creating more high-paying jobs and less reliance on over seas supply.
