Yes, I am currently reading; "The First Kudu" –Lessons and stories from a failed South African start-up. The book shares a narrative-driven tale of how HouseME's pursuit of unicorn status only sometimes went to plan. It chronicles the chaos experienced in building a start-up and unpacks in gritty detail the memorable lessons learned along the way. HouseME's goal was to solve racism and inefficient pricing in long-term residential renting. It evolved into an extensive digital platform with a team of thirty-four and a partner to the largest media company on the African continent. It entered 2020 on the cusp of raising an industry-defining Series-A round of capital, and then the pandemic hit, and South Africa was locked down. I find the unique challenges of racism, the African start-up ecosystem, and the industry-specific hurdles we experience in South Africa very interesting. The latter part of the book –which I have not covered in detail yet, offers a framework for founders and entrepreneurial leaders entering the arena. Admittedly, I am somewhat sceptical about finishing the last part of the book due to their massive failure. However, I am comforted by a life lesson shared with me once: "Observing others' failures is like navigating with a lighthouse – their struggles illuminate the hidden rocks, guiding your path to safer waters." #LearnFromMistakes #ProfessionalGrowth #LessonsLearned #Entrepreneurship
