Many entrepreneurs, founders, and CEOs find themselves in a state of confusion and conflict. They are torn between prioritizing profit or impact. Similarly, those with potentially transformative ideas often feel stuck, grappling with lingering questions. At Ennovate Lab, we have navigated these complexities for over six years. That’s a significant duration, especially considering that 80% of businesses in Nigeria fail within the first five years. Despite the odds, we haven’t had to choose between revenue and impact, yet we’ve thrived in both areas. Our resilience and growth can be largely attributed to the business philosophies we've practiced. These philosophies are deeply ingrained in each team member and shape the culture and modus operandi that has enabled us to consistently do great work and influence the culture and the lived experiences of the residents of our host community—Ogbomoso. In the upcoming Open House event, our CEO, Jesudamilare Adesegun-David, will take you into the core concepts we’ve practiced over the years. He’ll also help you develop the right philosophies that ensure you build a great business—one that shapes culture, regardless of your location. Yes, I am currently reading; "The First Kudu" –Lessons and stories from a failed South African start-up. The book shares a narrative-driven tale of how HouseME's pursuit of unicorn status only sometimes went to plan. It chronicles the chaos experienced in building a start-up and unpacks in gritty detail the memorable lessons learned along the way. HouseME's goal was to solve racism and inefficient pricing in long-term residential renting. It evolved into an extensive digital platform with a team of thirty-four and a partner to the largest media company on the African continent. It entered 2020 on the cusp of raising an industry-defining Series-A round of capital, and then the pandemic hit, and South Africa was locked down. I find the unique challenges of racism, the African start-up ecosystem, and the industry-specific hurdles we experience in South Africa very interesting. The latter part of the book –which I have not covered in detail yet, offers a framework for founders and entrepreneurial leaders entering the arena. Admittedly, I am somewhat sceptical about finishing the last part of the book due to their massive failure. However, I am comforted by a life lesson shared with me once: "Observing others' failures is like navigating with a lighthouse – their struggles illuminate the hidden rocks, guiding your path to safer waters." #LearnFromMistakes #ProfessionalGrowth #LessonsLearned #Entrepreneurship

The Entrepreneur Fast Lane: Embracing Learning & Technology for Business Survival In the heart of Lagos, Kunle had built what many would call a dream business. His product was a hit, and for years, it sold like hot cakes. He was the go-to guy in his industry, the one everyone looked up to. But in the blink of an eye, things changed. A new competitor had entered the market with a more advanced, tech-driven version of Kunle’s best-selling product. And just like that, his sales began to plummet. #EntrepreneurJourney #BusinessEvolution #TechDrivenSuccess #ConstantLearning #StayRelevant #BusinessInnovation #EntrepreneurMindset #EmbraceChange #TechnologyAndGrowth #EntrepreneurialSuccess Kunle, like many entrepreneurs, initially resisted change. "Why fix what isn’t broken?" he thought. But soon, it became clear—his business was losing relevance. One evening, during a conversation with a fellow entrepreneur, something clicked. "The market is evolving," his friend said. "And if you don’t evolve with it, you’ll get left behind." That was Kunle’s wake-up call and from that point, he dove deep into learning—attending seminars, exploring new technologies, and embracing fresh ideas. He didn’t just upgrade his product; he reimagined his entire business approach. By integrating cutting-edge technology and constantly learning new strategies, Kunle didn’t just survive—he thrived. His business is now stronger than ever, and Kunle is a living proof that in the fast lane of entrepreneurship, you can’t afford to sit still. The game is constantly changing, and the only way to stay ahead is to keep learning and to use technology to your advantage. Have you ever faced a situation where you had to rethink your business approach to stay competitive? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments below! Let's connect for more valuable content on ways and strategies to expand your business.

The Missing Ingredient for Business Success in Nigeria After many years of studying Nigerian entrepreneurs, I’ve identified a common pattern that holds true for most. Nigerian entrepreneurs are generally great at coming up with a product. While they may not fully understand product innovation, they have a knack for developing products that markets should love—especially in the startup ecosystem. They’re also good at securing funds, whether it’s from personal savings, family, friends, or even “fools.” I’ve seen many entrepreneurs hustle for financing—whether through debt, equity, or grants—sometimes even acquiring funds they don’t really need. However, one crucial piece is often missing, which contributes to the high failure rate of businesses in Nigeria: building, implementing, and managing a resilient business system. Through countless interviews and assessments with founders, I’ve discovered that the root of their struggles lies in failing to create a solid foundation for their business—and that foundation is their system. Without a resilient business system, even the best vision can falter or fade. After entrepreneurs gain clarity on the market problem they aim to solve, secure funding, and get started, there’s one question they must ask themselves: How can I build a business that can thrive for a hundred years, even when I’m no longer here? This is where visionary thinking comes into play. You cannot build a resilient business system without it. Moreover, true visionary thinking requires removing yourself from the equation. A genuine business vision isn’t about you—it’s about identifying a gap in the world or solving a problem that contributes to the bigger picture. So, how are you building your business? #NigerianEntrepreneurs #BusinessSystems #VisionaryThinking #ResilientBusiness #SustainableBusiness #BusinessStrategy

Entrepreneurship in Africa is like a powerful engine that's starting to rev up slowly but surely. It’s transforming economies, opening up new markets, and changing the narrative about Africa as a land full of potential. But let's keep it real: this is not some overnight success story. It’s more like a marathon, with a few sprints thrown in for good measure. So, how exactly is entrepreneurship benefiting the African economy, and what can we learn from the continent’s standout entrepreneurs? Lastly there is always this misconception between an Entrepreneur and a business man. People still seem to misunderstand who is who and these Titles are often used interchangeably.
