Today we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity! Proclaimed by the United Nations and celebrated every year on May 22, this day commemorates the adoption of the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 22 May 1992 and provides a unique opportunity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year, the theme of Biodiversity Day is "Be part of the plan”, an ambitious masterplan to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, following a whole-of-society approach. You can also take action, by adding new healthy or local foods to your diet, reducing the consumption of meat and fish, choosing fresh produce from local markets and support bio-products, favoring products with fair trade certifications or eco-friendly labels, among many other actions! Today we celebrate World Bee Day! Bees and other pollinators are fundamental for the health of ecosystems as they help maintain biodiversity and ensure the production of food. However, their abundance is decreasing due to human activities such as pesticide use and urban growth. World Bee Day was declared by United Nations to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators and to promote actions that protect pollinators and their habitats. There are some easy actions we all can put in practice to protect pollinators! For instance, choose organic, sustainable food and plant bee-friendly flowers. Find out more about World bee day at https://lnkd.in/euE7GtVD and get involved in the worldwide events that are taking place soon. #FoodShiftPathways #EducationForChange #ErasmusPlus #worldbeeday #biodiversityconservation Karolinska Institutet SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes Fab Lab Barcelona Ciência Viva Carsten Meedom FOODSHIFT Pathways Ellinogermaniki Agogi

Last week ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs), explored the strategic role of #LivingLabs in advancing the European Commission’s #Missions and #Partnerships. This event brought together an impressive lineup of speakers& stakeholders, including four Heads of Units from the European Commission, and representatives of three EU Partnerships to discuss how LL can address Europe's challenges while engaging citizens and users. I had the pleasure to moderate the roundtable Living Labs in the EU Missions where: Kerstin Rosenow, DG Agri, HoU, highlighted how Mission Soil has embraced the LL approach, making it central to achieving objectives by enabling real-world testing and implementation of solutions for soil health. She emphasized the synergy between #MissionSoil and the EU Partnership Agroecology, showing how these initiatives can complement each other for maximum impact. Philippe Froissard, DG RTD, HoU, spoke about the integral role of LL in the #ClimateNeutralCitiesMission and how they support co-creation and rapid prototyping essential for developing and scaling innovative solutions. He stressed the importance of expanding these approaches internationally to ensure replicability and scalability, amplifying global impact. Philippe Tulkens, DG RTD, HoU, underscored the necessity of LL for addressing #climatechange through localized and regional actions. He provided insights into how these collaborative environments test solutions and assess their transformative power, and addressed the evolving nature of the Climate Change Mission and how LL are crucial for its ongoing effectiveness. Jan-Willem van de Loo, PhD, #Cancer Theme Lead, discussed the LL methodology's role in fostering a closer relationship between physicians and patients. This approach could advance patient-oriented discovery processes, ensuring innovations align with patient needs, but it is still complex and needs further analysis. Elisabetta Balzi, DG RTD, HoU, emphasized the ambitious goals of the #HealthyOceansMission, outlining the significant challenges in preventing pollution, protecting ecosystems, and promoting a sustainable blue economy. She highlighted the critical role of public mobilization and citizen engagement facilitated by LL, key to driving necessary transitions at local and regional levels. Additionally, we explored various projects supporting the EU Missions, such as SOILL-Startup, NATI00NS, FARCLIMATE, BlueMissionMed, NetZeroCities, and 4PCAN and how practical applications of LL in diverse domains, highlighting their potential to drive impactful change. In another engaging roundtable, Artur Serra, Panagiotis Bamidis, Jokin Garatea, and Riccardo Saraco, shared valuable lessons learned from initiatives carried out by ENoLL certified Living Labs. This event reaffirmed our belief in the power of LL to drive impactful and sustainable solutions across #Europe. We are committed to continuing this journey of innovation and collaboration to achieve positive change.

Don't wait for change—be the change.✨Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen and Martin Schaefer on the power of biodiversity. Our Co-Founder Martin Schaefer recently spoke at #DigitalX in Cologne about the vital role of #Nature and #ClimateAction in securing our future. 🌍 He emphasized that each one of us can have a much larger impact on saving nature and preserving the natural resources we all depend on as humans. Alongside Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen, Martin, highlighted that we can't just wait for change—we need to take the lead ourselves. 🔄 We need to "transform pain points into action points," as Eckart aptly put it. 💡 The future depends on our actions today. 🌱 Join us in making a difference. 🌟
