To the Doers I often think of one of the best scientists I’ve had the privilege of working with. He had a rare ability to take any idea and turn it into action within days, often in his own time. Quietly working behind the scenes, he contributed to some of the most important breakthroughs in applying biotechnology to animal nutrition and health. The doers are easy to spot. They are the ones in the organization who take risks, experiment with new ideas, and make steady—sometimes big—strides every day toward a vision. They bring ideas to life, in practice. Progress is never automatic. We can’t assume that simply having an idea and investment will lead to results. It is the people with resilience and the drive to solve real-world problems who make things happen. As the year comes to a close, we want to honor these individuals. They are the ones transforming the world and our industry. They can be found across all functions—R&D, tech service, sales, leadership—always where the action is, solving real-life problems with expertise and energy. We are fortunate to collaborate with many of these doers across companies, and we take great pride in helping them turn their vision into reality. To all the doers: thank you. You are the driving force behind the progress of our industry. Take time to recharge over the holidays—I am sure your mind will be planning your next steps. We’ll be here to help! #animalnutrition #animalhealth #precisionnutrition #precisionfarming BIOFRACTAL

Exciting news from the Euro Fed Lipid Congress in Bologna! 🌍✨ We're thrilled to announce that Dr. Steyn Knoetze, our esteemed animal nutrition and health scientist at Kemin, is attending this prestigious event. This congress brings together the brightest minds to share the latest innovations and insights in fats and oils scientific work across industries. Dr. Knoetze introduced Kemin's groundbreaking Lipid Evaluation Test, highlighting the critical importance of raw material quality checks in the agricultural sector. By closely monitoring oxidation and nutritional parameters, we can provide accurate metabolizable energy estimations for poultry and digestible energy for pigs, including energy dilution components. This innovative approach ensures the highest standards of feed quality and performance, emphasizing the value of consistently monitoring the variable quality of fats and oils. Don't hesitate to reach out to your Kemin representative to learn more about these valuable insights and how they can benefit your operations. Trophic network knowledge in action for figuring out the previous unidentified etiology of chronic diarrhea in macaques. For this analysis a heatmap was generated by hierarchically clustering the Spearman rho coefficients of the different microbial groups and subsequently linking up clusters (blocks) of organisms as composite signals with Chronic Diarrhea. Starting facts: 1: Lactobacillus cluster up (1). These are producers of Lactate & Succinate 2: Cluster of fermenters of Lactate & Succinate (2) also up. 3: Both cluster 1 and cluster 2 consisted out of microorganisms which were also found by machine learning to be the most important biomarkers. Deduced: 4: Cluster 2 is likely a result of cluster 1. 5: Chronic diarrhea is likely a osmotically induced due to an overabundance of intermediate fermentation products (lactate & succinate). Hypotheses: 6: An overabundance of lactobacilli is probably caused by an overabundance of available lactose. 7: An overabundance of available lactose is probably caused by a form of lactose intolerance (where lactose is not digested in the small intestine). Findings supporting hypotheses: 8: Five different diets were tested. After formulating the above hypotheses it turned out after unblinding of the diet contents that the 2 diets with the least (or no) diarrhea were lactose free. The best diet (for these monkeys) was the one that was lactose free and high in fibre. 9: Chronic diarrhea problems in the overal monkey population have diminished since corresponding diet alterations have been made.
🎉 Publication Alert! 🎉 I’m excited to announce that our paper, “Microbiome Signature Suggestive of Lactose Intolerance in Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) with Intermittent Chronic Diarrhea,” has been published in Animal Microbiome! Special thanks to Annemiek Maaskant, Evgeni Levin, PhD, Roy Montijn and all others involved for their effort and collaboration during this project!

Our exciting comprehensive study, freshly published in #scientificreports paves the way for improved #poultry health and food safety. It sheds light on the pathogenesis of colisepticaemia, a disease caused by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) applying novel tools to track the disease's progression and transmission of #Ecoli into eggs. Intriguingly, we've made use of the most advanced #bioluminescence system to visualize bacterial colonization in host organs and eggs, providing a clearer understanding of disease stages and bacterial transmission. Below is a picture of glowing chickens (whole) and organs infected with bioluminescent E. coli. #cityu #vetmeduni #colibacillosis https://lnkd.in/dHT7-u9u
