It’s tough being a vendor at Health Tech conferences. You are basically doing real-life cold calls. Going up to speakers and trying to figure out a way to introduce your product despite no relevance to the just finished session. Cold pitching health system leaders at the cocktail hour except they just want to chill out and have fun. It’s super awkward… but you do it anyways because you feel pressure to connect with health system stakeholders and come home with “leads”. Overhearing some of these awkward convos at HIMSS last week reminded me of some of my own cringey conversations trying to meet health systems at events. You can sense that the health system stakeholder just wants to move on, and the vendor struggles between letting the convo die or holding on for dear life because… maybe, just maybe, they actually will be interested after all? It’s especially tough for early stage companies with no brand, no network, no relationships. So here’s an opportunity for both sides to help each other out. 👻 ~ Halloween #HealthData Event in NYC ~ Before I take my little Black Panther 🐾 and Simba 🦁 out on the wild Bedford streets to collect an (inevitably) nausea-inducing amount of candy, I'm going to head down to #NYC for HIMSS New York State Chapter's state event: "#Interoperability in New York: During the Age of #TEFCA, SHIN-NY, #QHINs, and the 1115 Waiver." There is a scary amount of (good) #HIE system change happening in our Empire State, and I can't wait to discuss it. I will have the particular pleasure of guiding a discussion on "The Role of QHINs, Which One(s) to Use, and How to Use Them," with: 🎙 A. John Blair, III, MD, CEO, MedAllies 🎙Paul Wilder, Executive Director, CommonWell Health Alliance 🎙Nihit Bajaj, Technical Services Team Lead and Standards, Epic 🎙Steve Yaskin, Founder and CEO, Health Gorilla ❓ I haven't settled on my questions yet - where's the fun in that? - and would love to know what YOU want to hear from our #QHIN leaders. More realism is needed in this dialogue now it’s 2024 not 2021. Yes, don’t “soldier on” & go to work or send kids to school (something that is mainly an issue for parents or caregivers in less advantaged employment) if unwell - rest & get better. But also realise that stopping transmission isn’t the major issue - circulation of respiratory viruses among all but most vulnerable generates important immunity and most people with infection have no symptoms so staying home with mild sniffle isn’t helping anyone. But please have your flu vaccine & if you’re in a high risk group get your covid booster at same time
