[#E4CLab🧠 A new #scientific #publication by Eléa Prat]   As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, seasonal thermal energy storage is becoming a key player in reducing CO2 emissions from buildings. However, the challenge lies in optimizing its operation across different time scales especially when integrated with electricity storage and heat networks.   In her latest study, Elea Prat (DTU - Technical University of Denmark)) explores how systems combining short-term electricity and long-term heat storage can be managed more efficiently through Model Predictive Control (MPC). Time flies when you're having fun! 🚴♂️ It feels like ages ago since I cycled through the Polish forests. 🌲 September has been a whirlwind, filled with progress, change, and new faces. Three words best capture the essence of last month: #Electrification ⚡ – Affordable #fossilfree energy is crucial for decarbonising the #pulpandpaper industry, also acting as a key enabler of electrification. In meetings and workshops throughout September, including those organised by ERCST - European Roundtable on Climate Change and Sustainable Transition and Enel Foundation, stakeholders tackled the multi-faceted challenges and explored possible solutions. Cepi has laid out some insightful routes for electrification with partners such as smartEn Smart Energy Europe, EASE - The European Association for Storage of Energy or European Heat Pump Association. Understanding 🤝 – Building a common understanding of the industrial sector’s needs in the decarbonisation journey was one of the themes at #WindEuropeHamburg. I was delighted to join an insightful conversation with Tim de Haas and Christian Barba, thanks to WindEurope's Vasiliki Klonari, who moderated a thought-provoking panel. European Energy Forum also hosted a valuable dinner debate focused on electrification. However, one key question remains unanswered: how can the industry, particularly the industrial demand perspective, be more effectively integrated into electrification discussions? Commissioners-designate 👥 – The announcement of the new top roles marked an exciting day of diving into the mission letters. One thing is clear: the upcoming mandate will offer significant opportunities to improve the #climate and #energy policy framework, driving competitiveness for energy-intensive industries. All eyes are now on the confirmation hearings, where we'll gain deeper insights into the new structure and portfolio divisions, setting the stage for what lies ahead. Looking forward to what the next months will bring! 💡
