Today, 21 May, is World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. This day highlights not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. With 89% of the world’s ongoing conflicts occurring in countries with low intercultural dialogue, strengthening this dialogue must be made a priority if we are to forge effective cooperation and sustain peace. #SITAlumni SPEAK - Share your world promotes the social inclusion of migrants and refugees by connecting them with locals through a language and culture exchange programme. #EIB #EIBInstitute #SDGs #GlobalGoals #SocialInnovation #SocialImpact #CulturalDiversity #Inclusion #SocialInclusion Hugo Menino Aguiar Pedro Tunes PHOTO:UNESCO/Carlos Villavicencio

International Human Rights Day | 10th December 🕊️ Human rights are more than policies or declarations-they are the foundation of every person's story. They mean safety, belonging, opportunity, and respect. In our work with refugees, migrants, and young people, we've seen the transformative power of inclusion. Whether it's through Erasmus Plus projects or local initiatives, we strive to build bridges between cultures, offer tools for growth, and ensure everyone feels valued. For us, human rights mean: 🙌A safe place to live and thrive. 📚Access to education that creates opportunities. 🫂Building communities where everyone is respected and supported. This Human Rights Day, let's remember that small acts of kindness and understanding can make a big difference. Together, we can create a world where every story matters. #HumanRightsDay #EqualityForAll #Refugeerights #EmpoweringCommunities #ErasmusPlus #InclusionStartsWithUs

🌍 **Advocating for Integration: Embracing the Power of Diversity!** 🗣️ In a world that is ever-evolving through migration, it’s crucial that we advocate for the smooth integration of foreigners into our local cultures. I am excited to share insights about the vital roles and objectives of migration offices in the Swiss model at the community level: 1. **Public Policy Development:** Shaping inclusive policies that honor diversity and promote peaceful coexistence. 2. **Partnership with Cities Against Racism (ECAR):** Standing firm against racism and fostering acceptance in our communities. 3. **Community Guidance:** Sharing essential information on "How to thrive in your city!" to ensure newcomers feel welcomed. 4. **Cultural Support:** Providing financial support for learning the local culture while honoring one's own. 5. **Research and Evidence:** Conducting valuable studies to empower informed decision-making. 6. **Building Bridges:** Creating connections between local authorities and embassies to facilitate smooth cooperation. 7. **Civic Education:** Raising awareness on the political systems in host countries to enhance civic participation. 8. **Support for Foreign Associations:** Empowering organizations that advocate for foreign communities and their interests. 9. **Translation Services:** Ensuring clear communication and accessibility for all residents, regardless of language. Together, we can cultivate a more inclusive and harmonious society in WB that celebrates our differences! 🤝 I invite all my connections to share your experiences or thoughts on how we can further promote integration in our communities! #Migration #Integration #CulturalDiversity #LocalPolicy #Inclusion #Empowerment

Today, August 9th, we celebrate International Indigenous Peoples Day / the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, and the completion of the second mission in Ecuador. The last workshop was on Cosmovision and Intercultural Dialogue. It was facilitated by the Ecuador national expert Angel Medina and delved into the diverse and rich histories and cosmovisions of Indigenous Peoples grounded in the teachings of interconnectedness through Pachamama/Mother Earth. It explored how European contact and colonization has impacted Indigenous Peoples and gender inclusivity. Nations and communities continue to uphold these sacred cosmovision teachings, which are also incorporated in the national and regional political bodies and organizations that also represent Indigenous Peoples and nationalities in Ecuador. After an open and candid dialogue around key concepts, historical and modern misunderstandings, and current and future opportunities; government officials underscored the importance of increasing intercultural dialogue to foster shared understandings, develop participatory processes for greater outcomes for their collective work. The final day concluded with personal reflections and planning the road map ahead to be undertaken by the Ministry of Government in the short, medium and long term. Participants were keen to share their learnings and disseminate the training materials to support greater understanding of the human rights of Indigenous Peoples and strengthen participatory processes. The Closing Ceremony included course certificates, gift exchanges, and remarks from representatives from the Embassy of Canada, the Ministry of Government, and the Alinea Technical Experts (Lea Nicholas-MacKenzie, Angel, and myself). This has been an incredible international initiative for strengthening technical capacity and sharing knowledge. Recognition and thank you to Ministerio de Gobierno del Ecuador, Alinea International and Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada Affairs Canada for this opportunity. "Building Stronger Communities: Culturally Sensitive Approach for Inclusive Humanitarian Localization" A culturally sensitive approach in humanitarian localization efforts means taking into account the unique cultural values, beliefs, and practices of the communities we are trying to help. By doing so, we can ensure that our aid efforts are respectful, inclusive, and effective. This approach positively impacts every community by fostering trust, empowering local leadership, and promoting sustainable development. Gender and youth inclusivity are crucial aspects of a culturally sensitive approach in humanitarian localization efforts. By ensuring the active participation and representation of women and young people, we can create more inclusive and equitable solutions. This approach recognizes the unique challenges faced by different genders and age groups, and it empowers them to actively contribute to decision-making processes, capacity building, and aid initiatives. By embracing gender and youth inclusivity, we can foster a more diverse and vibrant community, where everyone's voices are heard and valued. It's all about creating a more inclusive and empowering future with the desired results. Executive assistant to the Vice President IFRC African Region. #IFRC #genderequality #ifrcyouth

I'v read and listened much about the UK being a modern society in the world, which has been promoting milti-culturalism and still continues to practice it everyway including policy making and practice. Having such a good record and image, can all minorities who have lived here in the UK, who are currently living and those who who wish to come in the future has a best assurance of assimilating them in the British society? If so, how policy making circles should come up with decisions which support them well. And, to what extent illegal migrants threaten the nature of multi-culturalism in the UK?

Migration is a journey that enriches societies through the blending of cultures. Integration involves more than settling into a new place; it’s about sharing and embracing diverse traditions. I’ve seen how traditional cuisine ( food), clothing, and dance become bridges between cultures. Migrants bring their unique cuisines, introducing new flavors and culinary traditions. Clothing styles reflect a blend of heritage and contemporary fashion, symbolizing cultural pride and adaptation. Even mindsets and ways of doing things evolve, as different approaches to problem-solving and daily life enrich communities. Dance, a universal language, showcases the vibrant expressions of cultural identity, fostering unity and celebration. It also transforms and strengthens the fabric of the sending and the hosting societies. The Impakt Foundation for Social Change is helping newcomers succeed in Canada - on their own terms. We call this: “By newcomers, For Newcomers” Under the leadership of Fatemeh Alhosseini, PhD and her team, and supported by our amazing board of directors, what's been accomplished over the last five years is remarkable. Thank you. I'm very happy to share the Impakt Foundation's 2024 Impact Report: impaktfoundation.ca/ What lies ahead is uncertain. The Government of Canada is reducing immigration targets significantly - from 500,000 permanent residents per year to 365,000 per year by 2027. The supports needed for refugees and other newcomers who are already living in Canada are inadequate - to say the least. And, ongoing conflict in Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan and the Middle East will exacerbate the refugee crisis. While the situation for most newcomers remains far from being hopeful, there is reason to be optimistic. "Impakt is a hope finder that allows yourself to be whatever you want to be," said Monica Bagaya, a refugee who came to Canada from Uganda in 2022. ✨ Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of moderating the “Migration and Inclusive Development” Panel at GU LATAM 2024, hosted by the Latin America and The Caribbean Policy Association (LAPA), the Georgetown Latino Policy Initiative (#GLPI), and the Georgetown University Graduate Association of Mexican Students (#GUGAMS). 🔹 Together with distinguished speakers Betilde Munoz-Pogossian (Organización de los Estados Americanos) and Jose Aguilar (Fuerza Migrante Foundation), we explored critical themes around migration inclusivity—covering migrants’ integration, access to opportunities and rights, and the impact of shifting policies across the U.S. and the Americas. 🔹 Our discussion highlighted multidimensional challenges facing migrant women, innovative approaches for inclusive policies, and the vital roles of the private sector, NGOs, and civil society in creating lasting solutions. 🔹 A key takeaway was that while nations often seek regularization and border control, restrictive pathways will not halt migration flows if the root causes —such as violence, poverty, political instability, or economic inequality— remain unsolved. Regional collaboration is essential. ✨🙏 Thanks to Valeria Aron and Emmanuel Carrasco Hernandez for the invitation, Sophia Rafaela Delgado Loaiza for the kind introductory words, the #panelists for sharing their thoughtful perspectives, and the #students whose questions and enthusiastic engagement made this event memorable. #Migration #InclusiveDevelopment #LATAMGU2024 #MigrantRights #MigrantWomen #GenderEquility #Collaboration #RegionalApproach
