The convergence of multiple 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 demands a 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in our 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. Climate change, disruption to ecological systems, resource depletion, biodiversity loss and growing inequalities are not isolated problems, but manifestations of a broader systemic dysfunction. There is a growing need to shift toward 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and explore the critical role of 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 and 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 in enabling this transition. Last Thursday, we wrapped up the first session of our series co-hosted with the The Club of Rome, 𝘙𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 – 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. This event series brings together senior leaders and experts from across Europe’s public and private sectors to explore how we can t𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 to create a more 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 and 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆. This series is part of the EIB Institute's 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 workstream. The session, titled 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, focused on the need for 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 to 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀. Great meeting of minds today between Jens Kreisel, Rector of University of Luxembourg and EIB Secretariat General Barbara Balke, Mikołaj Dowgielewicz and EIB Institute Dean Shiva Dustdar! Watch the space for new impactful collaborations!
🇪🇺 🇱🇺 Our proximity to EU institutions is a true #enabler. It was a pleasure to discuss today the collaborations between the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the University of Luxembourg. A special thank you to the Secretariat General—Barbara Balke and Mikołaj Dowgielewicz—for the warm welcome and insightful discussions. I greatly appreciated the exchange with Shiva Dustdar, Head and Director of the EIB Institute, on our flourishing #collaborations over the years and the EIB's eight core #strategic_priorities (https://lnkd.in/db_Qr7mq). Our discussions about the "Brain economy", foresights into AI and Quantum, and financial innovation for societal impact remain on my mind. Looking forward to strengthening our impactful #partnership. #Innovation #Sustainability #HigherEducation #Research #Impact #Luxembourg

Thank you Frédéric Destrebecq for inviting me to this inspiring and insightful session at the European Parliament! As I mentioned in my intervention, we need more #science in #finance and more #finance in #science, hence important that more public and private sector investors learn about the brain economy, the disease burden, financing gaps and investment opportunities!
🔴 Yesterday marked the policy-oriented opening of the 2024 Brain Innovation Days in the European Parliament, "Bridging Neuroscience, Policy & Society", hosted by MEP Tomáš Zdechovský! The event kicked off discussions on the main theme of this 4th edition, "Navigating the Brain Across a Lifetime," bringing the wider brain community and policymakers together to explore how policy can drive progress in brain health, research, and innovation. After an introduction from EBC President Prof. Suzanne L Dickson & MEP Zdechovský, Prof. Theo Vos (Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation) highlighted the health and economic burden of brain disorders across the EU. Dimitrios Georgiopoulos (Merck Healthcare) then shared both the challenges and the opportunities in elevating brain health on the EU agenda, highlighting the pathways for meaningful patient-centered progress in brain health policy. Shiva Dustdar (European Investment Bank (EIB)) and Dr. Philip Schwab (AbbVie) discussed the role of industry in accelerating innovation and access to new treatments, and the impact of sustainable financing in supporting long-term brain health initiatives. MEP Tomáš Zdechovský and MEP Andras Kulja MD then exchanged on the need to break barriers to innovation and care, to support data sharing between research institutions and among member states, and to facilitate early diagnosis and prevention. The final panel discussion brought together Astri Arnesen (European Federation of Neurological Associations) & Peter Kéri (GAMIAN-Europe) to emphasize the critical gaps and urgent need for a collaborative approaches to address the challenges faced by people with lived experience of brain disorders across Europe. We would like to sincerely thank MEP Zdechovský for hosting this event, and all speakers and attendees who joined us to officially kick-start the 4th edition of the #BIDays!

#AI isn’t simply another innovation. It is going to change our society, raising numerous ethical questions: * To what extent can and should AI replace human, emotional connections and decision making? * In case of accidents and errors, who is to be held accountable? The machine, the programmer or the user? * What about all the information that is being saved and used? Our @EIB Summer School Alumni Pau Durà, Sofie Holtan Lakså and Sorina-Sofia Solonaru went to Ljubljana to reflect on those questions and defend their standpoints friendly competing against other European teams. We thank you for your positive energy, ambition, and fairness during this year’s European Ethics Bowl! Congrats on making it to the semi-finals and congratulations to the Ekonomski fakultet Sveučilišta u Rijeci for the well deserved victory! And thanks to University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business for the excellent organisation! As EIB Institute we are proud to be a founding member of this worthy initiative that brings together European students and empower them to reflect and discuss on important topics! 📢 It’s a wrap! Empowering Equity Academy🎉 In partnership with the European Investment Fund (EIF) we have just completed the first edition of the Empowering Equity Academy, an initiative designed to open doors for young professionals in #STEM and sustainability into Europe’s private equity and venture capital sectors. 🔬 Bridging Finance and Science: Women and STEM graduates are underrepresented in private equity, venture capital, and private debt—fields critical for fostering innovation across the EU. Through this Academy, 30 STEM students received a foundation in private equity and venture capital, learning directly from industry leaders at the EIF and gaining hands-on experience. 💡 Learning and Engagement: The program began with an intensive digital curriculum and culminated in a visit to our Headquarters in Luxembourg and to EIF’s flagship #UglyDuck24 event, where the students connected with top market professionals, participated in workshops, and explored real-world cases, linking them with future career opportunities. 🤝 A Strong Partnership: This first edition of the Empowering Equity Academy is a result of collaboration between us and EIF. We’re proud to support a more inclusive and diverse investment ecosystem. Want to learn more? Stay tuned for future editions! #EmpoweringEquityAcademy #DiversityInFinance #STEM Shiva Dustdar Marjut Falkstedt Mikołaj Dowgielewicz Silvia Manca Minerva Elias Franquesa Uli Grabenwarter Anna Canato, PhD Tamara Regenyi Ana Maria Stanescu Olivia Somers

What an inspiring experience at the 2024 edition of European Investment Fund (EIF)’s #UglyDuck&Friends! 🎉 This year, 28 brilliant STEM students from our Empowering Equity Academy, an innovative EIB Institute - European Investment Fund (EIF) initiative, had an extraordinary opportunity to turbocharge their learning and gain unparalleled access to hundreds of top venture capital and private equity fund managers. What made it even more rewarding was seeing how the students put into action the networking skills I shared with them earlier in the morning, confidently engaging with leading investors and making valuable connections. A special shoutout to the amazing fellow #HurryupClub member, Louise Kjellerup Roper, CEO of Volans, for her powerful wake-up call to step up our collective efforts towards building a more sustainable future making the systemic shift from responsibility to resilience. Enjoyed catching up with Jose Maria Fernandez, Angela Lawaldt, Sandra Lagumina ( from our EIB’s Women Climate Leaders Network) and meeting Milla Koistinaho and Nabil Marc ABDUL-MASSIH, Maria Samoilova, who each in their own right are making systemic investments that marry impact with financial returns! Final word of thanks to my amazing team members Anna Canato, PhD Minerva Elias Franquesa, Ana Maria Stanescu and Benjamin Nicola Bracciano for their hard work and dedication to make the first edition of the Empowering Equity Academy a big success and of course also to our dear colleagues Silvia Manca, Karen Malpas, Olivia Somers and many others under Marjut Falkstedt’s leadership at the European Investment Fund (EIF) for the excellent teamwork! #STEM #EmpoweringEquity #UglyDuckAndFriends #ImpactInvesting #VentureCapital #PrivateEquity #DiversityInTech #FutureLeaders #Impact

Why is #youth needed around the table? Because YOUR decisions are part of the legacy THEY are already inheriting. At EIB Institute are committed to that. How? Here we have 30 young talented female STEM students who came from all over Europe to join our #EmpoweringEquityAcademy and the #UglyDuck24! They are the 1st cohort of the Academy; a recently launched brand-new inclusive initiative developed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) together with EIB Institute that provides a bridge for young female STEM & sustainability students into the investment career space fostering diversity and equitability in investment field. These are critical efforts considering that women are underrepresented in EU private equity, venture capital and private debt markets. The Empowering Equity Academy is here to empower students on their career journey and help #GP have a close lenses to the STEM fields and the younger generation as a sound board for their decisions. We offer our students ✅ Real-world investment experience ✅ Exclusive networking events with industry professionals ✅ Training from seasoned finance experts. I will also be speaking more about it with my colleague Elodie Donjon at the #ImpactWeek in Bilbao on the 28th November. Join us, we want to hear your say too!
