One of the most valuable ways we can contribute towards solving the most perilous issues of our time as a creative services business is to help our clients meet their sustainability objectives. That’s why we’re investing in our sustainability capabilities across the board, and in particular our Engineering and Industrial Design disciplines. The increase in products and single use packaging represent a huge challenge to the climate and environment, insidiously polluting our planet and wastefully depleting our precious natural resources. Our sustainability specialists are on a mission to help shift our ways of consumerism towards a waste-free and carbon-conscious future. Our Global Head of Engineering Neema Pourian calls for FMCG companies to self-disrupt in this month’s FMCG CEO Magazine, framed through the lens of companies, brands and products that are thinking forward and thinking differently to build towards a more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/eCupf6_v Have a read and DM Neema if this piques your interest. Marks are proud members of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) and sponsoring SPC Advance and the How2Recycle® (H2R) summit which take place between September 30th and October 2nd 20204 in Chicago, IL. We hope to see some of you there! #Sustainability #Disruption #Design

Navigating the Push for Sustainability in Manufacturing Manufacturers today face mounting pressures to adopt sustainable practices, driven by regulatory requirements, market demands, and shifting consumer preferences. Regulatory Pressures Global sustainability regulations are rapidly evolving, pushing manufacturers toward greater transparency and accountability. Frameworks such as the SEC Climate Disclosure Rules, California Climate Reporting Rules, and the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) mandate comprehensive sustainability reporting. These rules require manufacturers to evaluate every phase of their production cycle—from design to end-user impact—to remain compliant and competitive. Additionally, governments worldwide are introducing new regulations in 2024 and beyond to standardize sustainability goals and ensure greater transparency in non-financial reporting. For instance, the CSRD, applicable to all large companies and listed SMEs operating in the EU, requires regular reporting on environmental and social impacts. This enables investors, policymakers, and consumers to assess corporate sustainability performance more effectively. Market Demands Major multinational companies are increasingly seeking sustainability data from their supply chain partners by utilizing frameworks to measure and manage their environmental impact. At the same time, consumers are changing their purchasing behaviors. A study from the Capgemini Research Institute shows that 79% of consumers now prioritize sustainability in their buying decisions. This shift compels manufacturers to innovate and align their practices with eco-friendly standards in order to maintain their market share. The Role of Regulation in Driving Sustainable Manufacturing Studies underline the importance of government regulations in mediating sustainable practices and enhancing environmental performance. Stringent enforcement, coupled with government-industry collaboration, significantly improves compliance. However, the effectiveness of such regulations depends on external factors, including stakeholder pressures and market conditions. #CoMarket #SustainableManufacturing #ComplianceAndInnovation #GreenSupplyChain Sources: Raconteur; Good Lab; Hermawan, A.
