Do yourself a favour and listen to his speech. 👇🏻 ❌I had a recent, dramatic experience with #COVID19 #pandemic and Long Covid-19 denialism that has chilled me to my bones. I'm still reeling from the abject injustice and ignorance it represents. I never thought I would experience #science #denial at an institution of #highered ...but this where were are right now as a society. And it will get worse, I fear. Ed Yong captures this reality well in his talk. ♿I know I'm not alone. While members of my family struggle, and I am the last person standing, I'm still able to work for the time being, I need to act as a voice for those who don't have the energy to stand for long periods, much less fight. 💫😵💫The unwillingness to believe in a virus that has taken the lives of 1.12 million Americans and nearly 60,000 Canadians has been one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. 🦼Today, 17.6 million #American adults and 3.5 million #Canadians are suffering from #LongCOVID. Some estimates suggest that in only a few years' time... 50% of the Canadian workforce will be similarly afflicted with long-term #neurological, #cardiovascular and #immunological impairments brought on by repeated COVID-19 infections. 😡Loud, destructive voices have railed against commonsense #publichealth and #workplacesafety measures such as #masking, #ventilation, #airfiltration, #vaccination, and encouraging #remotework and #virtuallearning. None of these voices will be remembered well by history. Not one. We are seeing the unsupportable and ruinous results of these beliefs every day in: 💥Spiking sick days 💥Loss of productivity 💥Employee attritition 💥Interrupted business continuity 💥Increased and costly business errors 💥Accelerating disability claims 💥Discrimination lawsuits 💥Increasing disability rates in working aged Canadians 🗣️Ed Yong said: "I have received thousands of messages from people who have told me that [his LongCOVID] pieces helped them to better understand what was happening them to find community and medical care and to feel the relief of recognition at a time when friends, family members and healthcare professionals brushed off their ordeal as imaginary with dismissal and gaslighting. "You're just depressed, it's in your head you're being lazy" are omnipresent parts of the #longCOVID experience and can be as crushing as the physical suffering. They are hard to fight because the disease's symptoms can be so beyond the realm of everyday experience as to seem unbelievable."

I am proud to announce that the EU-RADION project has been officially completed and evaluated. The project has successfully met all its ambitious goals, and I am particularly proud as the coordinator to have led the efforts of such an outstanding group of scientists, researchers, engineers, and professionals. https://lnkd.in/dY7-_nYA Taking advantage of the 30°C weather outside, I am reminded of our official EU-RADION demonstration (when it was 50 degrees less), where we showcased our solutions under realistic conditions in tunnels and real radiation environments. Although our short film doesn't show everything, it gives a glimpse into how we tested our solutions in practice. History or politics, or the history of politics, or maybe even the future history of politics? Setting our sails on the Pnyx has not been easy. It seems the Pnyx which was once the center of the democratic life of Athens is now an archeological site that one can not draw or hold any banner in it. This made our setting our sails action, to bo unknowingly to us initially, a quite subversive act... We had to stop drawing the sails and also when raising it it was only for the short time of the circle. While I understand some of the reasoning behind protecting important sites from being "claimed" or "used" for political reasons, I do wonder if it could be we have gone too far with historical preservation laws here. Could it be possible archeology has become another arm that preserves a world where democracy is doomed to remain only an unreachable ideal and not an everyday practice? What do you feel about that? For the past 6 months, I have been posting, almost exclusively, about humanity and how, if we want the world to be different, we MUST put humanity first in all we do—business, politics, healthcare, education, global affairs—in everything. Others joined me to highlight the need for humanity first, here on LinkedIn, and many tried to stop it by stating, "This is a business platform, take all that talk to Facebook or somewhere else." Of course, those platforms tried to shut it down too, saying, "No, not here." Every post since then has included the hashtag #challengethestatusquo. People want business reports and cat videos. They want to follow predetermined guidelines or be mindlessly entertained. Those who dare to do anything different are praised as heroes or scowled at as traitors or villains. I know we are all busy. We have many things to do, bills to pay, jobs to report to—we just don't have time for advocacy or activism. We really don't have time for humanity for everyone—just those closest to us. We never have time to do things right, but when things go wrong and we have no choice, there's always time then.
