"Goodbye PSS. Hello Offer & Order!" With these words, FLYR announced the launch of their Offer and Order Management System (OMS). I've read their press release between the lines:
👉 "Airlines now have the power to deliver a modern digital retailing experience" => Threedot's June report 👇 listed 9 vendors mentioning OMS, highlighting that FLYR had no dedicated product at that time. However Amadeus announced Nevio in October 2023 and Sabre Corporation followed with Mosaic in August 2024 👨✈️
👉 "Travelers have the flexibility to explore and access the products that matter to them, with personalization that makes them feel cared about" => The original goal in designing NDC was to enhance customer experience. The idea was to make shopping, ordering and changing a flight as easy as any digital retail experience 🕺
👉 "Airlines have been stuck with outdated, fragmented systems that are costly to maintain" => ONE Order is specifically focused on reducing fragmentation and costs by combining PNR, ET and EMD into… one Order. This consolidation removes the need to sync multiple legacy systems 😮
👉 "Cutting down the launch time of new products like fare families, security fast track and a la carte add-ons, from months to minutes" => Speed of innovation is a key driver for airlines' move to digital retailing, beyond just cost reduction 🤗
👉 "Legacy Translator: Enables backward compatibility with systems": FLYR can easily say goodbye to PSS as they don't run one today. However, they need to ensure a smooth transition from airlines' old PSS to their OMS, with tools like a translator. Over time, new services will be OMS-native 🤞

It's worth remembering that the concepts of "Offer" and "Order" were defined as elements of an airline's new distribution capability in the IATA standard (Resolution 787) published in 2012 😎
