Our President and CEO, Michael Goehring took to the stage to moderate an insightful panel on critical minerals at the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Annual Summit in #Whistler yesterday. The panel discussed responsible mining and mineral processing within the Pacific Northwest region; opportunities to build out a regionally based critical mineral supply chain; and enhancing First Nations and Indigenous participation and partnerships within the sector, across the region. One of the key takeaways from the panel: with the right policy direction, the region can host a robust #criticalmineral supply chain to support climate action, economic reconciliation and help meet North America’s technology, defence and security objectives. Thank you to #PNWER, and the panel of experts: Heather Exner-Pirot, Senior Fellow and Director of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment, with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute; TJ Parhar, Executive Lead, Mining Regulatory Reform, for the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation; Doug Brown, Vice President Corporate Affairs, Teck Resources Limited (Doug is also the Chair of the Mining Association of British Columbia); and Nalaine Morin, Vice President, Environment & Regulatory Affairs, Skeena Resources Limited. #PNWER2024 #criticalminerals #economicreconciliation

The past 10 years have seen more tailings dams built than in any previous decade. Today, safe storage of tailings is a key focus for stakeholders who are demanding miners do more to eliminate the failures that can devastate local communities and the environment, and cost billions to fix. With over 200 billion tonnes of existing tailings under management and an additional 40 billion to 50 billion tonnes expected in the next five years, this is a critical risk to manage. Join the following experts at Resourcing Tomorrow to discuss Julian Treger Chief Executive Officer, CoTec Corp. Ross Browning, Impact250 MD & CEO, has been appointed by the Board of enviroMETS (Qld) as an independent non-executive director. enviroMETS finds innovative ESG solutions and sustainable ways to make mining impacted land valuable to its future custodians – by adopting a collaborative approach to technical innovation, fresh thinking about recommercialising mine land, repurposed post mining land use and new land rehabilitation methods. Ross is looking forward to getting actively involved in the enviroMETS Board. He believes Queensland and the resource sector have yet to realise the significant high value post mining land use (PMLU) potential outcomes. The approach that enviroMETS pursues offers significant opportunities for the betterment of society. He holds the conviction that “enviroMETS can uniquely support us to move past the history of factors that have led to perverse legacy outcomes with new and different ways of thinking about PMLU solutions. My interest is to find practical solutions worked through pilot projects and genuinely integrating stakeholder’s interests, including traditional owners.” Said enviroMETS Chair, Russell Merz, “Ross fills gaps in our skills and experience that have become increasingly important as the organisation grows towards addressing its key purpose." enviroMETS Qld Ross Browning #impact250 #sustainability #pmlu

The Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) and the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development / IGFMining have joined forces to work on a report on Strategic Environmental Assessment / #SEA for the #mining sector. This report provides an analysis on how environmental assessments (SEA) can improve mining sector governance and points out the benefits through several country case studies. Following up on this report, during the International Association for Impact Assessment annual meeting in Dublin a week ago, #IAIA24, the NCEA and IGF led a panel discussion on the relevance of SEA in the mining sector. The goal of the session as to generate ideas on enhancing the use of SEA in mining for a just transformation, taking on board potentially negative social and environmental impacts, obstacles to overcome them and ways to enhance positive impact as much as possible and to use natural resources wealth to boost inclusive socioeconomic development. #internationalcooperation #justtransition #energytransition #criticalminerals #mining #Agenda2030 #Agenda2063 African Union OECD - OCDE European Commission European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken Pascalle Grotenhuis EITI (Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative) Helen Clark Commissie voor de milieueffectrapportage (mer) SDSN Global Climate Hub IPCC COP29 Azerbaijan UN Biodiversity https://lnkd.in/eM3Skz9b

Don't miss the opportunity to registration for the 2024 QMIHS Conference! This years conference promises to be an exceptional opportunity for professional growth, collaboration, and inspiration. Each attendee will be able to access valuable resources and engage in meaningful discussions. With the theme "Back to the future" the conference will aim to explore and challenge you to reflect on questions such as; • Is our industry now too complex or exactly where it needs to be on the transformation curve? • Is there a place for the simpler processes of the past to co-exist with new technology and ways of work? • Continuing from last year’s conference theme “Inside looking out”, have we looked outside for learnings when designing and implementing technology and change programs, to ensure we are not repeating mistakes of the past whilst transitioning to the future? The concurrent sessions at the will feature a diverse range of critical topics in mining health and safety. View the full conference program on our website and don't forget to register. https://lnkd.in/f3i95DW #GoldCoast #HealthandSafety #BacktotheFuture #MiningIndustry
