Last week, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates from all over the world gathered here in Bentonville, AR for Associate’s Week. The spirit and energy that this annual event breathes into our collective hearts as Walmart and Sam’s Club associates cannot be overstated. It is invigorating to have so many people here in our relatively small city at the heart of Walmart, USA. It’s a richly diverse gathering, not just in terms of cultures and countries represented, but also in diversity of career journeys, life experience, educational backgrounds, and so much more. This was the first year I was able to attend the Associate Celebration that wraps up the week. I saw incredible entertainment (Lizzo, anyone??). I also heard from Paris Hilton and Robert Downy, Jr. about their products available at Walmart. I enjoyed the lighthearted antics of host Peyton Manning, hearing leaders from different parts of the company talk about our future, and seeing the unique things happening at various stores around the world. What was most impactful to me though, was the message from CEO Doug McMillon as he recognized three amazing associates for their dedication and the difference they make every day. He spoke about the impact of consistent effort towards achieving goals, the importance of celebrating wins and success, and the inspiration to be found in moving targets. I really needed that message. I’m personally coming out of the most difficult year of my professional life to date. That idea of “moving targets”, for whatever reason, really clicked and resonated with me. We have been experiencing a lot of change recently in Walmart Global Tech, some of it unprecedented for many of us. It’s been a challenge to stay optimistic and seek out success in times of uncertainty. It’s so easy to lose sight of positivity when things are happening around us that we can’t control. But there are always things we can control, even in the midst of the unknown. Through that lens, moving targets are a really positive thing - an opportunity for a different way of working, a chance to discover a spark of creativity, a moment to foster new ideas. Change can stifle us with fear, or motivate us towards evolution. The rest of this year, I will be working on the latter. Here’s to an incredible remainder of FY25 at Walmart. I look forward to what the future holds! #WMT2024

Are you building real a #EmployeeExperience? Do you know your employee journey well enough to identify where to focus your resources and priorities? If you are in that quest, we can help. It is easier than you think.
Small, but meaningful detail of a special #EmployeeExperience... thank you Walmart! 🙏 Today, my personal inbox 📥 was hit by the email below... yep, came from Walmart with the subject: "It's time to celebrate, Ramon! 🎉 "... reminding me about what would have been my 18th anniversary with the company (I'm good with numbers so 3/29 was a special day I would have remembered though 🗓 ). I want to think that this was on purpose, as part of Walmart's Associate Experience Strategy... and not just a glitch or a spam. Perhaps for other former associates, this reminder may have come across as inappropriate or insensitive (like if you were laid off as part of a big reorg, or you left the company due to a poor manager/leadership experience); it was not the case for me, and for that, I really appreciate the note. When companies are purpose-driven ❤️ and realize the importance of the holistic #HumanExperience, that is, working maniacally to improve both, customers and employee experiences, you realize that in the case of employees, you have to understand the total journey, from recruiting to post-job, and create experiences for them not only when they are employees, but before or even after they left the organization. Today I may walk into my Walmart neighborhood market feeling a little bit special, and appreciated. HumanX Insights #HX #EX #CX

Doug McMillon's 10 year tenure as CEO of Walmart Inc, has grown the company from 476B in 2014, to 648B in 2024, over 36%, and with an increase of 172B. Which is more than the global sales of companies like BMW, for example. While the above summarizes WHAT he has done, it is equally important to mention HOW he has done it. A gifted people person, he leads with the company purpose and values engraved in his actions. #HumanExperience #CustomerExperience #EmployeeExperience
A Decade of Leadership and Transformation at Walmart This year marks the 10th anniversary of Doug McMillon as the CEO of Walmart Inc. It has undoubtedly been a decade of significant change for a retailer that continues to be the number one enterprise in the world. Reflecting on this milestone for Doug reminds me of the time I had the opportunity to meet him. I had just joined Walmart, and he was the head and CEO of Sam's Club. I remember walking near his office, and he walked out. I said hi, and the first thing he did was look at my badge, greet me, and ask how long I had been with the company. At that time, I had only been with Walmart for three months. He smiled, asked where I was coming from, wished me luck, and offered his support if I needed anything. This brief interaction, even as he was clearly heading to another meeting, exemplified his leadership. During my 16 years with Walmart, I had the opportunity to be in several meetings with Doug, many of which focused on supporting our Hispanic talent efforts. I should also mention that during my tenure, I wrote to him on a dozen occasions—some when he was CEO of Sam's Club, others when he was CEO of Walmart International, and later as CEO of Walmart Inc. There was a constant in all those emails: Doug always responded within 24 hours. Here was the most important person in Walmart Inc., the CEO of the largest company in the world, taking the time to fulfill the promise of the "sundown rule," acknowledging an email from an associate, and following up on my requests. These past 10 years for Walmart have been a decade of change. Doug was able to transform the company and face challenges with technology, as well as navigate the tough years of the pandemic and post-pandemic times. I recently read an article by Fortune Magazine, published yesterday, and I couldn't agree more with one of the observations made. One of Doug's most admirable skills is his ability to hold eye contact, making you feel like you're the only person in the room. This has been my experience in my interactions with him over the years.

Walmart Pulls Back on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Programs. Walmart is joining a list of other major companies - including Toyota Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company. Changes are taking place due conservative pressure.

I’ve enjoyed competition as a measure of self-progress, but don’t have a lot of time/energy for awards and accolades. I haven’t entered a design/admark competition willingly since 1997. I didn’t walk at college graduation. I’ve cheered on and celebrated those who do, but it’s not for me. While I’ve shouldered my share of individual tasks, most of my most satisfying accomplishments happened when I brought others along. This comes to mind when I see the bigger agencies flooding their feeds with the sunny shores Cannes or some far off financial boondoggle that involves 1-2% of the organization while the majority pull the plows back in the fields. At levels, all of these socializations are important, necessary, but it takes a lot of planning and organizational insight to balance the reward and harm of these spectacles. How do you engage the other 98%? I think maybe Walmart does it best with how they intend rotate employees into major events and involving people across the organization. It’s a least a good attempt. How does your organization handle awards and accolades?

The death knell of DEI program? 🤔 Walmart, world’s biggest retailer and the US’s largest employer is rolling back its DEI efforts, joining the ranks of a growing list of MNCs that have done the same. This is probably the most fatal blow to DEI as Walmart has been see as a leader and benchmark that’s been lighting the way for many corporate DEI initiatives. There seems to be a trend of MNCs disinvesting in DEI after realizing it’s a waste of time and resources. Instead of promoting diversity and equity, the program oftens exacerbates social division. I reckon it is counterproductive when the starting points of many business decisions are race and color, and it certainly doesn’t help when we are reminded daily by these DEI programs of our differences instead of our similarities and common humanity. Are you or your company still investing in DEI program? What do you make of the DEI situation now? #DEI #Walmart #Diversity #Equity #Singapore #Recruitment

22 years in the Advertising and SaaS industry - and I can, without question, say that achieving the 5-year milestone at #wmc #walmartconnect #walmart is the most rewarding and satisfying professional accomplishment of my career. This feeling is not anchored around the fact that Walmart is doing more for people and communities than it ever has. It's not due to the fact that 1/3 of Q1s revenue growth is attributed to non-retail businesses like WMC. It's not solely because I can confidently speak to my clients about sales outcomes - how their belief in WMCs tools and tactics led to quantifiable business improvements. It's because I smile more than I ever have at work. It's because I'm intellectually challenged and satiated every single day. It's because we've assembled a world-class team of business consultants, but more importantly, awesome humans who I am privileged to work with. I truly hope that in 5 years I can write a similar note about my 10-year milestone. Justin Merkey you've been instrumental in my growth and happiness here at WMC. Thank you for believing in me and for the constant support. Brett Wein I could not have asked for a better leader to chart our course. Thank you for your trust and guidance. Team WITT: What can I say? You all are THE BEST.

🛑 Walmart Rolling Back DEI Programs: A Step in the Wrong Direction The news of Walmart scaling back its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs is deeply disappointing. As one of the largest employers in the world, Walmart has a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to set the tone for corporate inclusivity and equity. Diversity, equity, and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords; they are critical to fostering workplaces that value unique perspectives, drive innovation, and reflect the diverse communities companies serve. Rolling back these efforts sends a troubling message that prioritizing fairness, education, and inclusivity is optional—not essential. 💡 Here's why DEI programs are non-negotiable: ✅ Innovation thrives in diverse teams. Bringing together people from different backgrounds leads to better problem-solving and creativity. ✅ Inclusion builds stronger teams. When employees feel seen, heard, and valued, they’re more engaged and productive. ✅ Equity is a competitive advantage. Companies that champion DEI consistently outperform peers, attract top talent, and build stronger customer loyalty. Scaling back DEI efforts risks alienating employees, customers, and stakeholders who care deeply about equity and fairness. It undermines years of progress toward creating workplaces that truly reflect our shared values. Let’s remember: DEI is not a “nice-to-have” initiative—it’s foundational to building better businesses and stronger communities. I hope Walmart and other companies re-evaluate these decisions and recognize the vital role DEI plays in long-term success. What are your thoughts? How can we continue advocating for meaningful DEI programs in the face of setbacks like this? Let’s discuss! #DEI #Leadership #DiversityAndInclusion #CorporateResponsibility
