After receiving 650+ Applications, we had the pleasure of connecting with and gaining insights from 5 Women tackling some of the most pressing challenges in the Care Economy & Future of Work. Sometimes, success isn't the whole story. A women's health company Flo Health Inc. just raised $200M and became one of the few unicorns in the space. That sounds like a win, right? But not everyone agrees. Here's why some women are upset: 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐫𝐞 and mostly led by Men: Such capital influx and valuation are exceptional, especially in women-led industries. A company founded by men, led by men and funded by men becomes first consumer WOMEN'S health app to achieve unicorn status. Awesome Women 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧: Female-led communities like Women Who Code have recently shut down. These communities are essential—they provide mentorship, resources, and a sense of belonging for women in tech. Losing them feels like a step back. So, while the $200M raise is impressive, it highlights a broader issue: we need more inclusive, supportive environments for women in tech and business. The first women’s health app to achieve unicorn status is founded, funded and led by men. Yet, we’re still telling women the market is “too niche” and “too small”? Despite being an app for women’s health, the leadership and cap table is made up of mostly men. This means that men will receive the majority of any financial returns down the line. This mirrors a broader trend where male founders, even in Femtech, receive the share of funding and benefits. It “pays” to be a male founder, even where women’s lives are directly impacted. This is fundamentally flawed. Though women on average delivery a higher return per invested dollar, there are systemic barriers in access to capital and opportunities to lead. This is about a system that continues to undervalue contributions of and by women. From the boardroom to the cap table, decisions affecting women’s lives need their input and leadership. This imbalance is not just inequitable, it’s ineffective and counterproductive to an economically viable and sustainable ecosystem. Prioritizing women leaders and founders is necessary. We need more women-led companies and investors who recognize their value. The success of this company proves that the market is real. Our founder, Rutuja Udyawar, based in Pune, India, is interviewed in this piece. She left a high-paying job with international travel to start her own company, Optimum Data Analytics, which focuses on AI-based product development. Over the past four years, she has navigated challenges like securing continuous capital flow and lacking advisory support. Despite her R&D background, Rutuja faced a steep learning curve in sales, finance, and HR. She credits DWEN and Dell for providing essential support, including $30,000 worth of technology. Rutuja believes the key to success is consistency, persistence, and embracing risk. Last week, I attended several startup panels, and the disparity was glaring. Women-focused events  → focused on mindset and overcoming barriers. Mixed-gender events  → discussed securing funding and scaling businesses. This isn’t just an oversight—it’s a disservice.  It’s time to move past mindset! Emphasizing mindset and challenges in women-centric discussions limits potential. We should prioritize financing and strategic growth Here are alternatives to consider at ALL women focused events:  → Alternative financing options → Investor relations, and scaling strategies → Corporate partnerships → Financial literacy These are missed opportunities. To truly unlock capital for women, we need to equip them from the start with these core basics. To any women founders in my network I highly recommend joining the Founderland community. ✨WCN Recommends: INNOVEIT✨ Let’s face another uncomfortable truth: Also in the start-up landscape, women are still significantly underrepresented. A study by Boston Consulting Group and SISTA reveals: - Only 10% of all newly founded start-ups in Europe were founded by women. - Only 7% of start-ups in finance rounds were women-led. - And only 2% of those securing capital were led by women. These numbers underscore a pressing issue in our entrepreneurial landscape. The #EITCommunity is committed to closing this gap, with initiatives that have increased the proportion of women-led start-ups in their portfolio to an impressive 25%. Everyone can play a role in standing up for equal opportunities.
