To achieve a cost-effective and reliable clean power system, experts have predicted that the U.S. grid needs to more than double the electricity carrying capacity it has today. However, new transmission lines are expensive, take a long time to build, and, if not planned and sited properly, can be disruptive to local communities. What technologies can help alleviate these issues, and how can policymakers, regulators, and local communities understand and incentivize their use? Join our webinar on March 12 to learn about advanced transmission solutions, including advanced transmission technologies and high-performance conductors. The webinar will cover the mechanics and purpose of these technologies and feature insights from Commissioner Allison Clements of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Chairman Marissa Gillett of the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Gilbert Bindewald III from DOE’s Office of Electricity .

There was nil addition of new transmission lines on the interstate transmission system (ISTS) network in November 2024. The entire addition during the month was seen in the intrastate transmission system (InSTS) grid. No new transmission lines were added on the ISTS network in November 2024, according to latest statistics released by Central Electricity Authority. Overall, 355 ckm of new transmission lines were added in November 2024 and the entire quantum was attributed to state government utilities, on the 220kV intrastate network. #ists #tbcb #powertransmission

Top stories today (£) 💷 Transmission networks set to spend £60bn in RIIO3 https://buff.ly/3DhuCt0 Great Britain’s electricity transmission network operators are expected to spend up to £60 billion in the next price control period (RIIO3), an industry boss has revealed. Nicola Connelly, chief executive of SP Energy Networks (SPEN), told Utility Week that the country’s three transmission operators will put forward plans to spend between £50 billion and £60 billion later this week. Speaking ahead of the submission of RIIO3 plans, Connelly also revealed that SPEN has been lobbying Ofgem for a rate of return "north of 6%" to make its plans financeable. 🟢 Clean power survives Starmer’s reset, but can it be delivered? https://buff.ly/4faM5AR Keir Starmer recast his premiership last week, repackaging existing commitments into new milestones and softening the edges of harder promises. While mainstream media fixated on a perceived “watering down” of the government’s clean power pledge, former 10 Downing Street advisor Tara Singh argues that the real question isn't whether we're aiming for 95% or 100% – it's how we get there at all. 💧 Ofwat’s ‘watered down’ meter reading rules could create billing issues https://buff.ly/4g7tg2z Ofwat’s proposed changes to meter reading regulations could cause issues relating to billing accuracy and may undermine consumer protections. That is according to the CCW, which has urged the regulator to rethink its proposed changes to the way non-household meter readings are governed under the Customer Protection Code of Practice (CPCoP).
