Exciting news for Aussie ag researchers & regenerative farmers! MADE has kicked off field trials for our novel biofertiliser strategies across 5 locations in Victoria! 🇦🇺 This project is a culmination of over 12 months of research, including a global review across agriculture, hydroponics, human health & cosmetics! We then conducted 300+ seed germination tests and extensive pot trials to refine our biofertiliser approaches. To ensure real-world relevance, we partnered with 5 curious farmers. Our trials incorporate diverse soil conditions, microclimates, and baseline analyses. We're testing a range of biofertiliser solutions: - Seed treatments - Biological treatments (including digestate!) - Precision ag for enhanced monitoring Early observations show promise, with some farmers reporting earlier emergence in bio-treated crops! Researchers & regenerative farmers: - Stay tuned for regular updates & demonstration days! - Sign up for our newsletter for detailed trial progress reports. "It has been eye-opening to be a part of the research community and experience the trials and tribulations that come with it!" As part of their biotechnology course, BSc students Marie Rosenkrands, Helena Kaagaard, and Sara Kristine Hagen joined a project aimed at finding new sustainable solutions to global agricultural challenges. The team investigated a biocontrol method to target agricultural pests, especially the Western flower thrips, which cause significant damage to crops worldwide. Here’s what they discovered: "Our goal was to determine whether symbiotic bacteria on the Western flower thrips contribute to resistance against the biopesticide Beauveria bassiana, a fungus used to kill insects. Our findings revealed that these bacteria can influence fungal growth, which has important implications for developing more effective and sustainable pest control strategies." "This project not only advanced our understanding of bacteria-fungi interactions but was a step toward more environmentally friendly agricultural practices. We believe that exploring these natural relationships can lead to safer, more sustainable pest management solutions that benefit both ecosystems and global food security." “We would like to thank our supervisor Laura V. Flórez for guiding us through this exciting project. We are grateful for all the knowledge and experience we gained!" 🌱🔬 #SustainableAgriculture #Biocontrol #PestManagement #Research #Agriculture #EnvironmentalScience #UniversityOfCopenhagen #WesternFlowerThrips #Biotech #Fungus #FungiMoreLikeFunGuy
