What would you do with €10,000? For Deutschland Forstet Auf gUG, it’s planting trees in the Allstedt region 🌳🌲 The forests in the Southern Harz region of Germany are particularly impacted by the effects of climate change. The bark beetle and oak complex disease are just two examples of why its trees have been dying over the past years. To make their forests more climate-resilient, the project “Zukunftswald Allstedt” plans to plant as many healthy trees as possible during the 2025 planting season. The project is counting on volunteers to help them plant climate-stable mixed trees, such as the speierling, silver fir, wild service tree, and bird cherry. Sounds cool? Many of you thought so, too! The project has won the public vote from the E.ON Foundations' European Climate Fund. 🗨️ Björn Schneider explains why he’s passionate about this project. #Allstedt #ClimateResilience #Forestation #Aufforstung #Baumpflanzaktion

Rivers are beautiful, but did you know their twists and turns can limit climate disasters too? In Europe, most of our rivers have been severed, dammed, redirected & polluted. This means they no longer help protect us from floods & droughts, while freshwater ecosystems are suffering & water for drinking & crop irrigation is under threat. The solution? On Tuesday 2 July we're launching the #Rivers2Restore report! Join us for the Brussels breakfast event including a panel discussion with MEP Jutta Paulus, more decision makers and people who have lived through climate disasters. Discover 11 transformative river restoration projects across Europe, like restoring rapids in Finland, and dam removal in Germany, especially selected by WWF for their climate, social and environmental benefits. Together, they make up 2,200 km of river to be restored that will contribute to nearly 10% of the EU Nature Restoration Law’s target of 25,000km of free-flowing river by 2030. Today, we're proud to embrace the powerful slogan for this year's #DesertificationAndDroughtDay: 'United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future.' This theme recognizes the crucial role that land plays in our lives - from supporting ecosystems and biodiversity to underpinning our economies and communities. The slogan challenges us to reflect on the legacy we're creating through our actions today and the green future we envision on land. Engaging present and future generations is more important than ever to halt and reverse land degradation and meet the global commitments to restore 1.5 billion hectares of degraded land by 2030. Let's unite with the UNCCD, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and communities around the globe in a shared mission to champion land restoration. Together, we can turn the tide against desertification and drought, ensuring a healthy planet for future generations. Act for our legacy, our future. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eiGJb5sF #United4Land

This article is outlining some pretty compelling data around the economic importance of birding in the US in 2022 : -107.6 billion in spending -7.5 billion days of birding -Economic return for the states of Maine and Massachusetts of $750K triggered by one vagrant Steller’s Sea-Eagle. A LOT of vagrants are chased by birders in a year across the globe… These numbers only show the direct economic benefits of birding. The value of the citizen science data generated by birders is massive. Now, the question is : How could part of these $$$ be invested back in conservation ?
Some hope and inspiration for a Monday! Birds Canada "This report shows that birding is a boon for local economies, a trend that can be seen around the world as the avian pastime continues to pick up steam and offers a sustainable revenue source for rural communities. But birders aren’t just chipping in financially; these hobbyists provide crucial data for scientists as climate change pummels global bird populations."

The pursuit of profit and economic growth at the expense of the environment is a recipe for disaster. We are living in a world where the value of a pristine forest is measured in terms of timber, not in its ability to regulate climate, purify air, and provide habitat for countless species. We are prioritizing short-term economic gain over long-term ecological stability.

March for nature on 22 June Nature is in crisis. The UK is now one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth, with 1 in 6 species threatened with extinction. It’s time for us to come together and demand action. That why Earth Trust staff and friends are joining thousands of other wildlife and climate campaigners at the Restore Nature Now march in London on Saturday, 22 June 2024. Backed by a wide range of nature, wildlife and climate groups and campaigners, including Chris Packham, this demonstration aims to be the biggest-ever gathering of nature and climate supporters in the UK. It’s a crucial opportunity to send a unified message to all political parties ahead of the election: we must act now to restore nature. At Earth Trust, we believe in the power of natural green spaces to address the crises of climate, biodiversity and health. Join us for this family-friendly and inclusive march to demand the change nature needs. To pledge to march, register with the organisers at www.restorenaturenow.com Together, let’s show our leaders that now is the time to act for nature.

Today is World Environment Day 🌍🌱🌻 'The world’s ecosystems are under threat. Unsustainable patterns of production and consumption are driving the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. More than one-fifth of the Earth’s land area, some 2 billion hectares, is degraded.' Take a look at the below link to see what changes you as a business/individual can make to help #generationrestoration : https://lnkd.in/eY_hTtDM #worldenvironmentday #worldenvironmentday2024 #restoration #deforestation #carboncapture #greenbusiness #sustainablebusinessuk

🌎 Happy World Environment Day! 🌿🌱 This year's World Environment Day theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience” highlights the urgent need to combat land degradation and restore damaged landscapes. Here are some NCN members making significant contributions to reversing land degradation, halting desertification, and building drought resilience: 📡 GSMA: Who are investing in start-ups, small and medium enterprises, and social enterprises leveraging digital technology to deliver climate resilience and adaptation solutions to low-income and vulnerable populations through the “GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation.” 💧 Irri-Hub KE : building a resilient farming community through intelligent irrigation and equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge to enhance crop yields through regenerative agriculture. 🤝 Mercy Corps: building drought resilience by working with the people and communities who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, and those at the forefront of climate innovation, to find a sustainable way forward together. 🚑 Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF): working in some of the most climate-vulnerable settings in the world, responding to urgent crises, conflict, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and displacement caused by climate change. 🚰 SPOUTS International: improving access to clean drinking water in arid regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. 🌍 WRI Africa: working in Africa to create a political and regulatory environment that promotes sustainable forest management. Join them today live on NTV’s “The Leadership Forum” at 5:00 pm (EAT) as they discuss the urgent need to stop land degradation and preserve natural landscapes. The business case for investing in forests is clear: nature strategies are vital for companies to thrive in a world facing climate and nature crises. With over half of global GDP at risk due to nature loss, businesses can’t afford to ignore the call for action. Forest conservation and restoration can capture 30% of the carbon we need to remove from the atmosphere, helping to build resilient value chains and creating $10.1 trillion in new business value.
