In a significant step towards greener maritime operations, the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, along with the Canary ports of La Palma and La Gomera, is set to launch #OPS. This initiative, part of the “OPS Master Plan for Spanish Ports” project, is designed to drastically reduce ship exhaust emissions, particulate matter, noise pollution, and vibrations by allowing ships to switch off their auxiliary engines while at berth. The project specifically caters to vessels from shipping companies Armas and Fred Olsen, promising a high positive social impact for urban communities surrounding these ports. The OPS Master Plan for Spanish Ports, with a budget of 6 million Euros and co-financed by 1.5 million Euros from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), aims to provide a comprehensive blueprint for the electrification of ships at berth across Spain. Attending the coastlink conference this week in Amsterdam provided an excellent platform and opportunity for all stakeholders in and around the European and UK ports sector to showcase how they are committing to net zero. Representatives from the shipping sector also had the same opportunity to update delegates. It was also clear that more needs to be done in all territories to secure increased private and state funding to accelerate green energy supply to quaysides for vessels visiting ports. Governments need to be reminded constantly, that without modern ports with good infrastructure and connectivity, there is no trade! 👏 CLIA commends the Biden Administration for the announcement of a $3 billion investment in U.S. port infrastructure, including at many American cruise ports. 🛳️ This investment will help support sustainable cruise operations in the U.S., bringing more technological improvements that help reduce emissions in port communities, such as shore power connections. It will also support an estimated 40,000 good-paying jobs, many of which will support cruise activity. 🍃 We welcome these important investments in port infrastructure and sustainable technologies by governments around the world, as CLIA members continue to pursue net zero emissions by 2050. Reflecting on my recent visit to Limassol, as I sit at the airport ready to depart, fills me with optimism. During a series of meetings with clients including owners, ship managers, and charterers in Limassol, I had many good discussions regarding how we can accelerate the green transition and one thing that stood out was the need for closer cooperation between the different stakeholders. Charterers and owners must work together on these matters if change is to be made. It was encouraging to attend the Capital Link Forum, where these matters were discussed and charterers were openly willing to invest in green technologies and work together with the owners and managers.' Such discussions are a promising indicator for the Cypriot maritime industry's readiness and willingness to work together to progress the green transition.   For me personally, they also yet again confirmed the necessity for the kind of holistic, technology-driven solutions Njord offers if we are to jointly make a success of the transition.

After 5 years, the environmental impact assessment of the master design sections Harjumaa and Raplamaa of Rail Baltica has been successfully completed 🚅🍃 We praise our experts, local residents and all cooperation partners who dedicated their time and energy to finding the best solutions. Local people now clearly understand the position of the railway, what its impacts will be and how these impacts will be mitigated. Thanks to our environmental experts, there are benefits that will be felt by Estonians both near and far from Rail Baltica: ✅ Taking into account the existing freight railway and the future Rail Baltica route, noise barriers will be built over dozens of kilometers ✅ Thanks to Rail Baltica, the ability of allied forces to quickly move assistance in Estonia will increase if needed ✅ Thanks to local stations, people will be able to board the train as close to home as possible ✨ The future is yet again one step closer!
