Wrapping up two weeks of conference on the future of carbon capture, first at Decarb Connect EU in Berlin, before moving to the Carbon Capture and Storage Association Europe conference in Brussels. Sharing some key takeaways from the panels and audience with you. 👉 CCUS is now a reality and in rapid expansion. If you were still unsure, now is a good time to jump on board. 👉 The key bottlenecks are on the transport and storage infrastructure side. On that topic, we welcome the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) setting a binding carbon storage target of 50 Mt CO2/year in the EU by 2030. That excludes rapid developments in the UK, Norway and Iceland. 👉 There is a strong demand from industry for regulation clarity and public funding to kickstart the industry. CCUS projects are notoriously expensive. Expect renewed discussions with the new EU Commission triggered by the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal. 👉 Partnerships, partnerships, partnerships. In case it was not clear yet, Carbonway is one of those partners, no matter which part of the CCUS supply chain you come from. #carbonway #ccus #carboncapture #industry #climatetech

Our enduring partnership with ERC Technik GmbH is crucial in advancing air quality through targeted projects across Southeastern Europe. 🌍 A key element of our partnership is their sophisticated Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) technology, which effectively reduces harmful industrial emissions. 🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐍𝐂𝐑? SNCR technology is a proven approach for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, a major contributor to air pollution. By introducing a reductant like ammonia into the flue gas at high temperatures, SNCR promotes a chemical reaction that converts nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water vapor, significantly lowering emissions without the need for catalysts. 🌱 Key Benefits of SNCR: 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Provides a cost-effective solution for emission control. 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Guarantees precise and effective chemical dispersal. 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧: Flexible adaptation to varying operational demands and fuel types. 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲: Reduces downtime, ensuring continuous productivity. 🇨🇭🇳🇴 Switzerland-Norway cooperation on #CCS and #CDR Two days of exchange between Swiss and Norwegian stakeholders in Zurich last month. Organised by both governments, the aim was to generate collaboration between stakeholders of both countries. It was great to meet in person many of the stakeholders we work with on a regular basis. 💭 A lot of interesting discussions to choose from, but here are a few: ➡️ Financial institution & CO2 infrastructure players recommended to remove the financial guarantee requirements for storage contracts, as it excludes small and medium size emitters, adds cost to the value chain and makes the emitter bear the full risk. ➡️ First movers have the daunting task of setting up the CO2 value chain and this will benefit the entire CCS industry – they should be incentivised rather than bear the full risk ➡️ Swiss emitters need to aggregate to be integrated in the EU plans for CO2 transport infrastructure, and to make their value chain more efficient ➡️ Most BECCS projects currently need both CDR sales and subsidies in order to be financially viable ➡️ The number of BECCS methodologies is growing with heterogeneous quality standards, making it even more complicated for CDR buyers to navigate → many look to the #CRCF to set the minimum quality standards (unclear how it will impact Swiss compliance market standards) 🙏🙏 A huge thanks to Sophie Wenger & Veronika Elgart for inviting us to contribute to this event, and to the City of Zürich for hosting. Airfix is leading the Carbon Rhine Route (CO2RR) CETPartnership project, involving ChemOil Logistics AG, Northern Lights JV and Carbon Impact France – we hope to further foster cooperations between Switzerland and Norway.

📢 CCS Europe is excited to be part of the #CCS and #CCU community who support an #IPCEI for industrial carbon management! #IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) gathers the public and private sectors to undertake large-scale projects to address market failure. They bear positive contributions to the EU's economic growth, jobs, the green and digital transition and competitiveness. For the CCS community, IPCEIs are key to accelerating industrial carbon management, namely CO2 capture, removal, utilisation, transport and storage. Alongside members of the industrial carbon management community and umbrella organisations, we called on JEF-IPCEI representatives to: ✔ Prioritise industrial carbon management. ✔Enhance JEF-IPCEI's role to accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors. ✔Support infrastructure investments, including funding and de-risking mechanisms for CO2 infrastructure. 📆 We look forward to fruitful discussions on CCUS during the next JEF-IPCEI technical meeting with Member States, Commission representatives, industry, and experts! #NoNetZeroWithoutCCS
📢 Harnessing the #IPCEI mechanism to boost carbon capture, transport, and storage in Europe! 📃 Today, 30 members of the industrial carbon management community and umbrella organizations come together to support an #IPCEI for industrial carbon management (#ICM). 🤝This broad coalition of companies across the value chain and environmental NGOs calls on JEF-IPCEI representatives to prioritize #ICM in the upcoming meeting and enhance JEF-IPCEI's role to accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors. Why this matters? ➡️ Industrial carbon management is vital for Europe's climate neutrality, as highlighted by the EU's Industrial Carbon Management Strategy, EU 2040 Climate Target, and the Net Zero Industry Act. ➡️ Lack of viable business cases and funding mechanisms remain prominent barriers for deployment in Europe. ➡️ The EU ICM Strategy plans to support an IPCEI for industrial carbon management. 💡 What are IPCEIs? IPCEIs (Important Projects of Common European Interest) unite public and private resources to undertake large-scale projects that address market failures and societal challenges, benefiting the EU economy and society as a whole. IPCEI are initiated and funded by Member States, and must involve at least four member states. Since 2023, the JEF-IPCEI has brought together Member States, Commission representatives, industry, and experts to improve IPCEI effectiveness and identify strategic technologies for future IPCEIs. #CarbonManagement #NetZeroIndustry #CCS #CCU #CDR Signatories: Bellona Europa, Carbon Capture and Storage Association, CCS Europe, CEMBUREAU , Clean Air Task Force, Climeworks, Equinor, Global CCS Institute, Groningen Seaports, Hafslund Oslo Celsio, Heidelberg Materials, IFP Energies nouvelles, IOGP Europe, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, ORLEN S.A., Offshore Norge, Verband der Industriellen Energie- & Kraftwirtschaft (VIK), Norsk Hydro, Wintershall Dea, Uniper, Yara Europe, Energy Hub Port of Wilhelms Haven, Porthos, Hydrogen Europe, Gasunie, VNG AG, AGROFERT, a.s., OGE, ENGIE
