Building a better, sustainable future is the responsibility of all building material manufacturers. Our ‘Road to Sustainability 2030’ is an ambitious plan which includes our decarbonisation goal: reducing the intensity of our scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 35% vs 2018. In 2023, we launched several initiatives that already paid off: 👷♂️ Our electric forklift fleet expanded to cover 45% of our fleet 🚆 Teammates are more likely to travel greener ⚡ The photovoltaic (PV) capacity doubled to 15 MW across 12 sites, generating 20 GWh annually (2% of the total electricity consumption) and avoiding 5,000 tonnes CO2 On World Energy Saving Day, let’s re-pledge our commitment to carbon neutrality and continue to help make the world more sustainable. Have a look at our annual report to find out more about decarbonisation. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyn2Gg-a #WorldEnergySavingDay #UnitedTolnspire #InspiringWaysOfLiving

Even if we meet all of our renewables, energy efficiency, and other carbon reduction goals, Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) will be an essential part of the net zero equation. These new CDR technologies will have to manage around 6-10 gigatons of CO2 per year by 2050, but right now, there isn't enough demand. For those who know me, you’ll know my focus is usually on the innovation and change businesses need for green growth. However, these shifts are only possible with the necessary national and regional policy changes to drive demand. This is where governments come in—they will have to pull a full range of policy levers to promote ‘durable’ types of CDR, like Direct Air Capture and sequestration, to ensure long-term carbon removal. Governments can boost the demand for carbon removal by setting carbon prices, creating decarbonization standards, directly buying carbon credits, offering financial incentives, and including CDR in carbon accounting standards. I'm grateful to my colleagues Karan Mistry, PhD, Amy Sims, Thomas Baker, Paulina Ponce de Leon Barido, Alex Dewar, and Habib Azarabadi for sharing their expertise on this topic. When people doubt the potential of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), they’re missing the big picture. Imagine saying recycling is a waste of time or renewable energy is just a trend. It’s simply not true. CCS stands at the forefront of our fight against climate change, transforming the landscape of sustainability in the oil and gas industry. However, CCS is thriving for us. We’re seeing amazing results - from significantly reducing CO2 emissions from industrial activities to enhancing oil recovery (EOR) by injecting captured CO2 into depleted reservoirs. It takes a lot of work. You need a proper strategy, the right tools, testing, and time. Let's not forget, currently around 44 million metric tons of CO2 are captured and stored annually, a figure expected to rise to several billion tons by 2050 to meet global climate targets. But what are the options? Give up on CCS and continue facing escalating CO2 emissions? Or innovate, optimize, and push for better results. Seems like an easy choice to us. In an era marked by immense technological challenges and significant costs, the alternative to inaction becomes clear. Implementing carbon capture technologies, while complex, paves the way for economic opportunities, job creation, and infrastructure development. For the oil and gas sector, CCS is not just a compliance measure but a pathway to a sustainable transformation. By investing in CCS, we're not only mitigating climate change but also ensuring long-term viability and resource optimization through enhanced oil recovery. The future beckons. Let's harness the power of CCS and lead the charge towards a greener, more sustainable world #CCS #CarbonCaptureAndStorage #ClimateChange #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #OilAndGas #CO2Emissions #Innovation #EconomicOpportunities #JobCreation

🌍💨 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): A Game-Changer for Climate Action 🔋🌱 As the world races to combat climate change, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is emerging as a revolutionary solution. By capturing CO2 emissions before they reach the atmosphere and storing them safely underground, CCS is paving the way for a sustainable future. 🔑 Why CCS Matters: 1️⃣ Emission Reduction at Scale: CCS can capture up to 90% of CO2 emissions from industrial sources like power plants, cement factories, and steel mills, making it a vital tool for hard-to-decarbonize sectors. 2️⃣ Enhancing Renewable Energy: By storing carbon emissions, CCS enables a smoother transition to renewables, balancing energy needs while reducing environmental impact. 💡 CCS is more than a technology—it's a cornerstone of net-zero strategies, offering hope for industries and ecosystems alike. 🌱 Let’s invest in solutions that ensure a cleaner, greener tomorrow. #CarbonCapture #ClimateSolutions #Sustainability #NetZero #CCSTechnology #GreenInnovation #CleanEnergy #FutureOfClimateAction #NCARD #NorthCARD

#Greenenergy, such as solar, hydraulic #energy, and wind power, slashes carbon footprints. With advancing technology, renewables offer cleaner, more accessible electricity. They mitigate greenhouse gases and stimulate local economies. Challenges remain, but innovation promises a #sustainable energy future. Embrace green energy for a smarter, cleaner tomorrow. What is a #carbonfootprint? A carbon footprint is the total amount of #greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions. The average #carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. Globally, the average carbon footprint is closer to 4 tons. To have the best chance of avoiding a 2℃ rise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop to under 2 tons by 2050. Lowering individual carbon footprints from 16 tons to 2 tons doesn’t happen overnight! By making small changes to our actions, like eating less meat, taking fewer connecting flights and line drying our clothes, we can start making a big difference. You can report and manage individual and corporate #CarbonFootprint calculations with our product "CarbonIT", the software of which we developed. To see more details 👉 https://lnkd.in/dCCyfvgW. Carbon Capture and Storage In the global pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) stands as a beacon of hope in the fight against climate change. CCS technology offers a viable pathway to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by capturing CO2 produced from industrial processes and power generation, preventing its release into the atmosphere, and storing it safely underground. With the urgency to mitigate climate change, CCS presents a crucial opportunity to decarbonize sectors that are challenging to electrify, such as heavy industry and long-haul transportation. By capturing Co2 from these sources, CCS can significantly contribute to achieving carbon neutrality goals. Moreover, CCS can complement renewable energy sources by providing reliable, low-carbon power generation from fossil fuels. It enables the continued use of abundant fossil fuel resources while minimizing their environmental impact. The implementation of CCS requires collaboration between governments, industries, and research institutions to overcome technical, regulatory, and financial barriers. Investment in CCS infrastructure and research is essential to scale up deployment and drive down costs. As we navigate towards a sustainable future, embracing CCS is imperative. It not only helps us combat climate change but also ensures energy security and supports economic growth. Let's join forces to accelerate the adoption of CCS and pave the way for a cleaner, greener planet. Together, we can make a significant impact on mitigating climate change and securing a prosperous future for generations to come. #CarbonCapture #ClimateAction #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #CCS #ClimateChange #EnergyTransition #EnvironmentalImpact #GreenTechnology #IconsEdge #IconsEdgeBusinessLeadership #IconsEdgeExecutiveInsights #IndustryLeaders #IconsEdgeCorporateVision #IconsEdgePerspectives #IconsEdgeBusinessMagazine #ExecutiveEdition #CEOInsights #IndustryMagazine #IconsEdgeLeadershipJournal #ProfessionalGrowthJourney
