As a large business, you're required to report on your greenhouse gas emissions. And while including your Scope 3 emissions isn't a mandatory requirement, it can have a significant impact on your energy or sustainability strategies. Scope 3 covers indirect emissions across your supply chain - as reported by Energy Live News (https://bit.ly/3KDck67). Addressing these directly gives you a clearer picture of your carbon footprint and ensures that your net zero strategy accounts for all elements of your business. We can help you decarbonise your estate and remain compliant. Learn more about GHG reporting: https://lnkd.in/egF28G8p #ghgreporting #decarbonisation #carbonmanagement

Building a better, sustainable future is the responsibility of all building material manufacturers. Our ‘Road to Sustainability 2030’ is an ambitious plan which includes our decarbonisation goal: reducing the intensity of our scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 35% vs 2018. In 2023, we launched several initiatives that already paid off: 👷♂️ Our electric forklift fleet expanded to cover 45% of our fleet 🚆 Teammates are more likely to travel greener ⚡ The photovoltaic (PV) capacity doubled to 15 MW across 12 sites, generating 20 GWh annually (2% of the total electricity consumption) and avoiding 5,000 tonnes CO2 On World Energy Saving Day, let’s re-pledge our commitment to carbon neutrality and continue to help make the world more sustainable. Have a look at our annual report to find out more about decarbonisation. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyn2Gg-a #WorldEnergySavingDay #UnitedTolnspire #InspiringWaysOfLiving

🌍 Understanding Scope 1, 2, and 3 Emissions: A Path to Sustainability 🌱 As we move towards a more sustainable future, it’s crucial to understand the different types of greenhouse gas emissions: 🔹 Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. These include emissions from company vehicles and on-site energy production. 🔹 Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy. This covers electricity, heat, and steam consumed by the company. 🔹 Scope 3: All other indirect emissions that occur in the value chain, including those from suppliers and product use. This is often the largest portion of a company’s carbon footprint. By measuring and managing all three scopes, businesses can create comprehensive strategies to reduce their environmental impact and drive real change. Let’s commit to transparency and action in our sustainability efforts! 🌱✨ #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Scope1 #Scope2 #Scope3 #CorporateResponsibility

"Businesses don't want decarbonization!" 🗣 Well, yes they do. In an open letter coordinated by Corporate Leaders Groups Europe, CEOs, leading businesses, investors, networks and SMEs across the EU, call on the EU to set a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of at least 90% by 2040. Full letter and participating companies: https://lnkd.in/ep-xyQQe (including Salesforce) According to the signatories, the EU should: 🔹 Integrate the target into a comprehensive #industrialstrategy, guided by a ‘competitive sustainability’ approach, allowing the EU to lead the global race of development of sustainable industrial ecosystems and industries. 🔹 Place the target at the centre of the EU’s overall strategy to enhance energy security by accelerating the clean #energytransition and energy efficiency, and phasing out fossil fuels. 🔹 Build on the legacy of the #GreenDeal and effective implementation of the Fit for 55 Package. 🔹 Harness the opportunities presented by the #circulareconomy and #ecodesign to tackle emissions stemming from the production of materials. 🔹 Create a clear signal to businesses and national governments of the importance in investing in #naturebasedsolutions and the transition to a #naturepositive economy. 🔹 Set a robust target that will allow the EU to play a leading role to phase out #fossilfuels, triple the rate of deployment of #renewables and double energy efficiency rates globally.

Europe’s new CSRD regulations will make it much easier to look into sustainability ratios, it will be a game changer making it harder for companies that pretend taking action. Ratios don’t lie. Another interesting ratio “green innovation budget compared to green marketing budget”. Some of the largest corporations will look very different from how they brand themselves. Accountability will be confrontational.
"Green Gauge: Tracking Progress with Sustainability Ratios" 📍Navigating the complex world of sustainability can be challenging, but understanding key metrics is a crucial step in the right direction. The following is essential sustainability ratios that organizations can use to measure and communicate their sustainability impact and progress effectively. 📊 Greenhouse Gas Emissions: ratios like GHG Emissions Intensity and Carbon Reduction Rate help organisations evaluate their carbon footprint and reduction efforts. 🌱 **Energy Consumption Ratios: See how your renewable energy use stacks up and where you can improve with the Renewable Energy Ratio and Energy Intensity metrics. 💡 **Investment in Decarbonization Ratios: Examine your investment in clean technology and climate risk mitigation to ensure your company is aligning with best practices for a sustainable future. #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #GreenBusiness #CorporateResponsibility #CleanEnergy #Decarbonization #climateaction

🌍 Understanding Scope 4 Emissions: A Step Beyond Scopes 1, 2, and 3 🌱 As the climate conversation evolves, you may have heard of Scope 4 emissions – but what does it mean, and how does it differ from Scopes 1, 2, and 3? Here’s a quick breakdown: 🔹 Scope 1: Direct emissions from operations (e.g., fuel combustion in company-owned vehicles). 🔹 Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy (e.g., electricity from a coal-powered grid). 🔹 Scope 3: Indirect emissions across the value chain (e.g., emissions from suppliers or customers using your products). 🔹 Scope 4: Avoided emissions – reductions achieved outside your direct operations due to your products, services, or activities. 📊 Example of Scope 4 in Action: A company producing solar panels can claim Scope 4 emissions for the fossil fuels avoided when their panels generate renewable energy. Or, a business making energy-efficient appliances contributes to lower emissions when customers use their products. 💡 Why It Matters: While Scopes 1–3 measure actual emissions, Scope 4 highlights a company’s potential to enable broader emission reductions. It’s not part of the formal GHG Protocol, but it’s becoming a key way for businesses to demonstrate their positive climate impact. ⚠️ Challenges: • No standard measurement framework. • Risk of double-counting reductions. • Avoid overstating benefits to maintain credibility. 🔑 Takeaway: Scope 4 is a powerful way to showcase innovation and sustainability leadership, but it’s not a substitute for reducing Scopes 1–3 emissions. It’s about creating impact beyond boundaries.🌱 #Sustainability #NetZero #ClimateAction #ESG #Scope4Emissions
