Wednesday 20 November 19:45 live music: Downtime 20:15 speakers Café Loburg, Wageningen Freedom, we all know the word and have our own perception of what freedom means to us and perhaps also to others. But did you ever wonder how the concept of freedom was perceived and how the meaning of freedom changed over the last 25 centuries in Europe and the United States? For centuries people in the West identified freedom not with being left alone by the state but with the ability to exercise control over the way in which they were governed. They had what might best be described as a democratic conception of liberty. The dominant conception of freedom today is a deliberate and enormous rupture with those ideas. Understanding the long history of thinking about freedom shows how recent our current perspective actually is. In this Science café we explore the history and current state of the concept freedom. Our speaker, Prof. Annelien De Dijn, will explain how the very nature of freedom can be interpreted in different ways by different people at different times. She will do so by providing a historic perspective and explaining the past and current (mis)usage of freedom for ideological, or individual rather than collective, purposes. https://lnkd.in/eZgnNkBy

Classical Music is a genre that is far more important and alive than it may seem. For example, in season three of FX's Emmy award-winning series The Bear (no spoilers here), there is an episode that operates almost like a time-lapse of a restaurant's service and kitchen cadence over a number of weeks. From calm to chaos, the orchestral music never stops... shifting and adding a unique, dynamic, organic element to the frantic pace of the visuals. But so much of the power of classical music comes down to the performance of the musicians. In this piece, we take a closer look at why and how those performances amplify on-screen visuals. https://buff.ly/4cxpmxo

Can we conserve music? Can music be preserved at all? Why, in the first place, do we want to capture something as ephemeral as music? What exactly can be conserved and how? What makes the music? Is it the score? Is it the sonic result of its realization? Is it the process that leads to it? And how do these parameters relate to each other? What problems and challenges arise, and what solutions have been tried? https://lnkd.in/eN_BhXub I am very happy to contribute with my essay to a volume of extraordinary breadth! At the same time, I am amazed at how many of my projects are connected here. Statistics Post -1 Correlation Interesting Fact -1 The Mozart Effect Rauscher et al. (1993) made the following statement in their paper published in the Journal Nature: We conducted an experiment where students were each given three sets of conventional IQ spatial tasks. Before beginning each exercise, there was a 10-minute (1) listening period to Mozart's Sonata for two pianos in D major, K488. Two: Playing a soothing audio recording; and Three: Quietness. When comparing those jobs immediately after the first condition to the other two, performance improved: " While many researchers doubted this notion, a large number of researchers mistakenly believed it to be true. As usual, the media went too far and began promoting the story under the banner "Mozart makes you smart."In 1998, Zell Miller, the Georgian governor, suggested allocating USD 105,000 year for the distribution of music CDs to newborns (Sack, 1998). Miller maintained that early exposure to classical music enhances intelligence. The main issue with this is that Miller assumed that intelligence and classical music were causally related. Causal linkages suggest that one event's occurrence leads to the occurrence of another (effect). A two-event correlation does not indicate a causal relationship.

People often associate it with truth, but most of the information in the world isn’t about truth – or lies. Music, for example, is information, yet it doesn’t tell the truth or deceive. There’s bad music, but no “fake music.” Instead, music connects – making people sway in clubs, march in step, or chant together in churches. This is the heart of 'Nexus': connection. The book explores the history of information and how it binds us together in many ways. #NexusBook #YuvalNoahHarari #Information #AI #Networks

Part 6: “Harmonic Resonance: The Symphony of Thought and Light in Personal Transformation” In a metropolis teeming with the cacophony of daily life, there lived a musician named Theo, whose life was a testament to the belief in the power of thought, intention, and their manifestation into the world as tangible change. Theo, a renowned cellist, had always been fascinated by the concept that the music he produced was not merely sound but a form of light, a vibrational energy that could influence the world around him. Theo embarked on a personal journey, a project he called “Harmonic Resonance,” aiming to explore the intersection of music, thought, and light. He hypothesized that music, when created with a specific intention, could serve as a medium for transmitting secondary emissions of light — not in the literal sense, but as metaphorical beams capable of touching souls and transforming lives. To test his theory, Theo organized a series of concerts in various settings: from grand concert halls to intimate community centers and open-air spaces in nature. Before each performance, he would meditate on a specific intention, whether it be peace, healing, or joy, and then allow that intention to guide the flow and expression of his music. Audiences who attended Theo’s performances reported experiencing profound emotional responses, often describing the sensation as being enveloped in warmth or a gentle light that seemed to emanate from the music itself. Many shared stories of personal insights gained or moments of clarity and resolve that occurred during Theo’s performances, attributing these experiences to the unique quality and intention behind the music.

Music and Facilitation are the same Music is the organization of SOUND within the context of time! Facilitation is the organization of IDEAS within the context of time. These definitions sounds very scientific and academic, but hear me out. In music, musicians work within a framework of elements such as melody, rhythm, harmony, expression, and articulation in every piece of music. Whether it is the latest hit by Beyoncé, a Beethoven symphony, your favorite children’s song, or your favorite EDM artist, one or more of these elements are present. As I read and experience more about facilitation and workshopping, facilitators help organize ideas within a context of time (and space if you include stickie notes). Good facilitation allows teams to function within a framework of flow (or rhythm), harmony, and expression. Facilitation is the organization of IDEAS within the context of time. There is urgency in what facilitators do because of the context of time. Whether it is 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week! While the Beatle’s didn’t always agree, when they were together, they aligned in their ideas to produce some of the best music of the 60s. “To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time” ~Leonard Bernstein What are your thoughts? #workshoppermasterchallenge #20daysofposts #facilitation #AJ&Smart
