UNRWA has been a lifeline for millions of Palestinian refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and neighboring countries, offering humanitarian aid, education & shelter. As the occupying power #Israel has a legal obligation to ensure the basic needs of Palestinians in #Gaza and the West Bank, and to uphold their human rights. By impeding UNRWA’s operations, Israel is violating International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s orders for it to take immediate measures to protect Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip from the risk of genocide, including by ensuring sufficient humanitarian assistance & facilitating basic services. The Israeli government must urgently revoke legislation violating its obligations, stop the relentless smear campaign against UNRWA and take urgent action to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians

“Most of the children in Rafah have already been displaced multiple times by the fighting in Gaza, in direct contravention of international law. We know that as the war enters its 20th week many are injured, sick and malnourished and will struggle to find the wherewithal to move yet again. We estimate that at least 17,000 children in Gaza are now unaccompanied or have become separated from their families, a number that would surely increase in the event of further population displacement. It is imperative to refrain from further military escalation in and around Rafah and to ensure that all hostages still inside Gaza are urgently and safely released. If the parties do not heed this call, they will be responsible for the deaths of many more children, in addition to the thousands who have already perished. Parties to the conflict should urgently implement a permanent humanitarian ceasefire so that our group and other humanitarian agencies can help to roll out the massive, multi-agency operation that is so desperately needed. I strongly urge the authorities to allow more aid trucks through border checks, to lift restrictions on the movement of humanitarian workers, and to guarantee safety for people accessing and distributing aid. The destruction of Gaza and killing of civilians will not bring peace or safety to the region. That can only be achieved with a negotiated political solution, one that prioritizes the rights and well-being of this and future generations of Israeli and Palestinian children." 📝90 Days to Act: #HandsOffUNRWA! The recent vote by the Israeli Knesset to ban UNRWA is a direct threat to millions of Palestine refugees. UNRWA is the main UN agency on the ground in Gaza and serves as the backbone of aid, providing at least 60% of all assistance. UNRWA provides essential services like education, healthcare, food assistance, shelter, and emergency assistance. The UN, global leaders, and nations all over the world say there is no alternative to UNRWA. With a 90-day window before the ban takes effect, here’s how you can act: ✅Share this graphic: help us reach more people ✅Advocate: Urge your reps to restore US government funding to UNRWA ✅Stay informed: Follow UNRWA USA to learn why UNRWA is a lifeline for Palestine refugees Visit https://lnkd.in/eT-FFbH for more on how to advocate for Palestine refugees. Graphic Description – This graphic features bold text that reads: Stop the Ban. Hands off UNRWA. Protect Palestine refugees. #HandsoffUNRWA and the UNRWA USA logo.

I have been working on #Syria for over a decade, focusing on civilian protection and humanitarian aid. The brutality of the #Assad regime remains seared in my memory, along with the many friends—displaced, dead, or missing—who have suffered under its rule. What makes this escalation different? It is the culmination of over five years of failed negotiations and the regime’s persistent unwillingness to engage in political dialogue in good faith. The Syrian regime has repeatedly chosen its survival over the welfare of the Syrian people. Syria’s so-called “normalization” has always been a hollow concept. The Assad regime has relied on coercion, the exploitation of Syrian refugees and their rights, and the manipulation of Europe and other countries with the threat of additional refugee flows to assert its legitimacy. Despite years of negotiations aimed at creating a safer, more secure Syria—one in which millions of refugees might voluntarily return—the regime has continued its policies of arrest, detention, torture, and enforced disappearances on a massive scale. The international community has too often played into this cycle, hoping the Syrian war and its humanitarian crisis would somehow resolve themselves. Now is the time to break this pattern. The world must fundamentally reconsider its approach to #Syria and push for a revived, inclusive political dialogue that prioritizes the safety, dignity, and future of the Syrian people.

An account here of the significance of UNRWA - the UN agency specifically tasked with assisting Palestinian refugees - and the actions of Israel towards it, and thereby towards Palestinians. It is quite startling to reflect that while the UK Government (not alone in this) aids the undermining of this UN agency it is also fast disavowing any role for itself in the protection of near any refugee (Palestinian or other). Causing and encouraging forced displacement of people while refusing to share in the responsibility for providing for those peoples' needs and rights is an especially gross position to take. And this applies not only to the UK's history and current actions concerning Palestine and Israel, but also to its history and present actions (and omissions) concerning places such as Afghanistan and Sudan.

Simple Reminder that unrwa.org/ has been bringing humanitarian aid to Palestine since 1949. Defunding UNRWA to appease the Genocidal occupation was a massive mistake. Why does a small settler colony get to boss all the governments of the world? Look at the UN voting record for humanitarian aid. Repeatedly, the Nations of our entire planet work together to offer aid packages to Palestine and to sanction Genocide. UK, US, and Israel consistently vote against humanitarian measures. Sometimes France, Sometimes Australia. Sometimes France upholds Human Rights. The targeted drone strikes killing the 7 humanitarian volunteers of World Central Kitchen WCK was intentionally done to prevent humanitarian aid to surviving Palestinians facing present starvation. These are war crimes. World Central Kitchen stepped up to end the Hunger, while our world governments defunded UNRWA. World Central Kitchen stepped in to bring aid to ease the forced starvation of Palestinian children, and their workers were chased by drones until all 7 were dead. World Central Kitchen is the same that brought food to Washington DC to the furloughed government workers during government shut-downs. This is continued Genocide.

The closure of UNRWA is a hot topic in the news. According to this opinion piece in Ynetnews, the best thing for the Palestinians would be to replace UNRWA with a better agency like UNHCR. Undoubtedly UNRWA has wasted $120 billion of taxpayer money since 1949 so it's time to use funds in favor of real refugees. This also suggests that Lazzarini should be held accountable for Hamas' infiltration into UNRWA and de facto making the agency one of its arms. What do you think about this issue? #UNRWA #Palestine #UNHCR #refugees
