We’re thrilled to highlight the incredible work of our Piping Prefabrication team along with our inhouse designers and BIM team. They recently completed custom skids for a fast track project! The skid bases and piping were fabricated, assembled, and tested in-house. Using SysQue spooling software, our BIM team modeled the skids, while our HGG piping profiler cut and prepped all pipes. We utilized MIG Spray Arc, MIG Pulse Arc, and TIG welding to ensure top-quality fabrication. Design per Industry Practice Designing a pipe system according to industry practice typically follows established codes like ASME B31.1 for power piping and B31.3 for process piping. These codes ensure that the system meets safety, reliability, and performance standards. Traditional design focuses on defining load cases such as sustained loads (dead weight, internal pressure), occasional loads (wind, seismic), and thermal expansion. Thermal stresses are generally handled by a combination of company-specific design rules and stress analysis methods, rather than a single analysis approach. This ensures a comprehensive assessment of how the pipe will behave under different conditions. Pipe supports play a critical role in managing loads. Whether resting on steel structures, concrete foundations, or supported by spring hangers, each support type ensures the proper distribution of loads and maintains system flexibility. Spring hangers, rods, and rigid struts are used to manage movement and restrain excessive deflections. Rigid restraints, in particular, prevent unwanted movements and protect against excessive bending moments. Thermal stresses due to temperature changes can deform the pipe and affect its flexibility. Internal pressure also influences flexibility; it can deform the pipe wall and stiffen bends, reducing flexibility.
