It looks like Davie Shipbuilding is going to help Bollinger [formerly Halter Marine] try to get the Polar Security Cutter (PSC) [formerly Heavy Polar Ice Breaker (HPIB)] program across the finish line for the United States Coast Guard (USCG). Davie may even be purchasing Bollinger, but the deal's structure has yet to be disclosed. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and how it affects the South Coast's shipping industry. https://lnkd.in/gtpwZdiy

Shipyard Trivia: Locomotive Cranes – Steel Wheeled Beasts of Burden By Marcus W. Robbins, NNSY Historian & Archivist Shipyards have used various methods to move materials since their beginning. The very nature of the materials utilized within the trades are heavy, awkward and most times difficult to place. Manual labor could only go so far. Animal labor such as beasts of burden (oxen and horses) could only do so much also because Norfolk Navy Yard continued to service larger ships over time, which required the use of dry docks. Due to that change, both man and beast’s abilities to perform larger and heavier tasks decreased so cranes became the way of the future. For the full story, visit:https://ow.ly/G33550RBAN3

It is really beyond me how this can happen. We take an idea of building a smaller cheaper alternative to the DDG and screw it up...again. If I were to take a guess, this ship is a conglomeration of outsourced parts, developed by multiple sub-contractors to be assembled by a prime contractor like a huge LEGO set. Therefore, no single entity can be held accountable for this failure. Dump this garbage and keep on building the proven and capable ARLIEGH BURKE's. Here is a fast fact: It shouldn't take over 3 years to build a Fast Frigate.

Europe’s heavy-metal options Yurri Clavilier 5th August 2024 European heavy-armour manufacturers are pursuing at least five different Main Battle Tank designs, offering users crewed- and uncrewed-turret interim options as the arrival of the next generation slips toward the mid-century. As it now appears that it will be at least two decades before the Franco-German Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) is ready for service, European heavy-armour manufacturers are refining multiple offers to fill the gap. While the target date for the first delivery of the MGCS family was by 2040, this date is now trending toward the middle of the decade, if not beyond. Europe’s two main heavy-armour manufacturers, Rheinmetall and KNDS, are touting at least five approaches in providing improved Main Battle Tank (MBT) designs, taking on board the lessons of recent and ongoing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East. Russia’s war in Ukraine has starkly displayed both the utility and vulnerability of heavy armour, and MBT designers are looking to absorb lessons that Moscow’s aggression continues to offer.
