Great to see lots of people professionals eager to learn more on AI and other technologies at #cipdACE and how to use them responsibly. When choosing an AI-embedded solution it's worth asking vendors if their solution conforms with responsible AI standard ISO/IEC 42001 (or are planning to). What evidence they can show to prove the solution works as expected and what assurance steps are needed on an ongoing basis. Some highlights from the sessions I chaired/spoke: 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘃𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. We need human oversight in everything, more for new solutions that we don't fully understand and less for solutions that are trustworthy. Nikki Sun advised us to assess people's readiness for the technology solution. Reputations are at risk if we ignore the readiness gaps. Emily Campbell-Ratcliffe emphasised the need for meaningful transparency and accountability from suppliers and within organisations. We won't get the most out of a technology solution if people don't understand or trust them. Furat Ashraf reminded us that explainability is everything. Decisions informed or made by the solution need to be explained in simple terms to help people understand how it was made and in case you need to explain at a tribunal. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲. Carl Clarke shared Vodafone's journey for building skills and their key enablers for creating a culture of learning. Hani Nabeel highlighted the key enablers for creating a particular culture is unique to each organisation. We can't simply cut and paste and expect the same outcomes. Culture analytics can help us prioritise the enablers. 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀. In this highly practical session, Mike Chatterton shared fundamental prompting techniques and Gavin Duncan CMgr MCMI / Assoc CIPD demonstrated HR examples live. We worked hard behind the scenes to put the session together. It was rewarding to see faces light up in the room! 𝗔𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗗). I shared the different ways the profession is using generative AI and urged members to visit the CIPD Community chat to share and learn https://lnkd.in/eFEYK9Kp David D'Souza talked about Buddy, a BETA service (pilot service) to help members find content on the CIPD website (not the movie) https://lnkd.in/esyytcXz A big thank you to all the speakers, volunteers, sponsors, colleagues and everyone who came for another successful #cipdACE. It was lovely to catch up with contacts and meet new ones. I'm still buzzing from the conference. #AIinHR

This week’s economic data, including the Office for National Statistics’ latest labour market overview, hints at economic recovery with slight declines in job vacancies and unemployment. However, more needs to be done to boost labour market participation, especially in service-led sectors like hospitality which faces significant staffing challenges. Improving perceptions of service careers, investing in training and protecting workers from customer abuse will be key to attracting and retaining talent, driving growth, and ultimately supporting the UK's economic revival.
