We can't believe it's already been two weeks since #EGC2024 in Dublin. We want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our sponsors for their support and understanding the profound importance of good bereavement care. Thank you to the Health Service Executive, HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention, Health Research Board (HRB), Meet in Ireland, and Fáilte Ireland for contributing to the success of the conference. #EuropeanGriefConference

Last week we shared of The House of Lords Select Committee’s report on the efficacy of the law and practice relating to statutory public inquiries. The report outlines that many public inquiries concern a disaster that has a direct and devastating effect on groups, individuals and their families. It recognises that whilst inquiries can be cathartic they can also be arduous, highlighting the risk of re-traumatisation if they are not properly designed to accommodate the needs of victims and survivors. It sets out a number of good and bad practice examples in relation to victims and survivors as well as recommending; * The Government should ensure future inquiries build on the good work of recent inquires and better involve victims and survivors. * Key inquiry staff should receive training on a trauma informed approach. * Consideration on the lay out of the hearing room. * Use of sensitive and inclusive language. Not all inquiries are the same and victims and survivors are not a homogeneous group. We use our experience in this sector as well as our clinical expertise to support inquires to consider these, and many other issues, promoting the individual needs of victims and survivors and preventing risks of re-traumatisation.

Family violence remains one of the most serious public health and safety threats across Australia. The15 NSW health professional Councils and the HPCA along with our regulatory partners have released an important joint statement, easy read guide and media release taking a united stand against family violence. The statement has been developed in collaboration with our regulatory partners – Ahpra, the National Boards, the Health Care Complaints Commission as well as the Office of the Health Ombudsman. This is the first time we have taken a united approach which has resulted in a clear statement that family violence is unacceptable and that health practitioners’ conduct must reflect the trust and confidence that the public place in them for safe healthcare. We are absolutely committed to responding to family violence in our regulatory capacity and the release of this policy statement is a positive step forward to help better protect the public. Looking forward to today's #NCASC session where Cordis Bright’s Chair, Tom Noon, will be part of a panel discussion on ‘The Prevention Paradigm’. The workshop will focus on how local authorities can develop approaches that shift from crisis response to preventative support for autistic people and people with a learning disability. Prevention has been a theme that has cropped up again and again throughout the conference, emphasising its critical role in improving outcomes, reducing system pressures, and reflecting the encouraging discourse from central government. Keen to hear the insights from Tom and the rest of the panel on how we can translate these principles into practice and embed sustainable preventative approaches across the sector.

Uncontrolled bleeding is the leading cause of preventable death from trauma. The American Red Cross First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST) program provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to respond to an emergency involving life-threatening bleeding, including how to: • Recognize a life-threatening bleeding emergency. • Ensure safety and communicate effectively in an emergency. • Control life-threatening bleeding using direct pressure, a tourniquet, or both. The program is designed to enhance participants’ ability to take decisive, lifesaving action to assist a person with a traumatic injury and life-threatening bleeding until professional responders arrive! #stopthebleed #tccc #tourniquet #tecc #medic #trauma #firstaid #ifak #ems #bleedingcontrol #paramedic #tacmed #police #firstresponders #traumakit #k #medical #emt #beprepared #firstaidkit #stopthebleeding #tacticalmedicine #training #edc #northamericanrescue #combatmedic #savealife #firstresponder #aph #torniquete

Adopting survivor care principles guarantees the safeguarding of survivors' health (physical, emotional and mental), dignity, wishes, safety, and other crucial aspects. Survivors needs, rights and wishes are paramount when responding. It is essential for all institutions, government offices and the community to adopt survivor care principles. Without these principles, survivors often face difficulties accessing appropriate and quality services, leading to re-traumatization and reluctance to seek help. #RestoringDignity
