A #danubestrategyflagship, the Danube Youth Network (DYN) was born with the implementation of two projects carried out by the EUSDR Civil Society Network in collaboration with five partnering NGOs located in Baden-Württemberg, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Serbia. Young people need guidance and support to get involved in European policies and democracy, therefore the network focuses on youth participation, sustainability, empowerment and social inclusion. The Civil Society Network of the EUSDR, an informal network in Baden-Württemberg, initiated the project design of the Danube Youth Network, which evolved into a consortium of NGOs in the Danube Region. This consortium consists of the German Stiftung Liebenau (lead partner) in partnership with the Agapedia Foundation network, the Federation of Social NGOs (FONT) in Romania, Breza NGO in Croatia, Supernatural NGO in Serbia and Re-Act NGO in Bulgaria. The aim of the network is the institutionalisation of an open, transnational, trans-sectoral, independent and self-organised Youth Network in the Danube Region. Up next in our series on how CSOs can #ShiftThePower on the #RoadFromBogotá we hear from Rotimi Olawale of YouthhubAfrica. He advocates for stronger collaboration & building a collective voice amongst local organizations: “CSOs are forced to compete against each other, which is not the kind of system that African societies are used to.” https://lnkd.in/e99B3Nzj

Are you passionate about the power of youth to take on global challenges? Do you want to join other young people from across Africa and Europe to build a better future and make a real difference? If you do, this is the opportunity for you! What is the Opportunity? The AU-EU Youth Action Lab is an initiative co-funded by the European Union implemented by Oxfam, Restless Development Uganda and the European Youth Forum. The project addresses the lack of opportunities for youth in Africa and Europe to collaborate, develop, implement and scale up their own initiatives. It is designed to support young people to be more engaged, empowered and connected. At the heart of the project is the opportunity for youth initiatives to apply for powershifting grants. Youth initiatives will receive funding to implement their own ideas and solutions to global challenges. Moreover, the grants will facilitate resilience, financial security, build organizational capacity and foster the connections between young people across Africa and Europe. https://lnkd.in/dHnWFu9X

International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) are launching this timely funding and training opportunity for young people in Europe working to address division and hate. As someone who has worked with them in the past, I can thoroughly recommend engaging with this project! See below for more info! In an increasingly divided Europe, hate speech, racism and community divisions are worsening. Amidst this context, the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) is putting its trust in young people to find innovative ways forward by launching a new grants scheme for young people in European cities called Catalysts for Cohesion (C4Ɔ). C4Ɔ will support small-scale, innovative change-making initiatives proposed by teams of young people at a city level in line with the EPDF policy recommendations around building cohesive and inclusive communities where everyone feels belonging. Young people are invited to apply in diverse teams of 2-5 members from the same location. Successful recipients will receive EUR 2,500-5,000 funding (based on the needs of the initiative) and will have access to a capacity-building training and support programme over six months. Through its young grantees, C4Ɔ will build and upskill a network of emerging European leaders supporting them to lead the way on interreligious and intercultural change. The C4Ɔ Grant Scheme is open to enthusiastic young people who have great ideas about how to build social cohesion in their city or locality, but may lack the platforms, resources and dialogue skills to make their ideas a reality. Applications are open to mixed teams of 2-5 young people aged 18-30 from any European country as defined by the 46 Member States of the Council of Europe, with an idea for an initiative at the city or local level that implements any of the policy recommendations emerging from the 5th EPDF. Each team should represent at least two different faith backgrounds; C4Ɔ is also particularly interested in receiving applications from diverse teams representing underserved communities, for example, in terms of gender, race, socioeconomic status and refugee and migrant backgrounds. You could be part of an existing youth organization/movement or it could be the first time you have worked together. Applicants are encouraged to think about building new coalitions before submitting an application. Apply by Monday 17 June 2024, 17:00 (Western European Summer Time): https://lnkd.in/ev87Eyp9 #dialogue #cohesion #training #funding #youngpeople #interfaith

Yesterday, we conducted our first planning meeting for this year's International Youth Day (IYD) commemoration, with a number of stakeholders—including youth leaders —in attendance. We extend an invitation to interested parties to collaborate with us in planning this year's International Youth Day commemoration in Malawi. The United Nations (UN) designated 12 August as International Youth Day, a day for governments and other stakeholders to celebrate young people and their contributions to development, as well as to draw attention to various issues that affect youth around the world. Commemorations are always guided by the global theme set by the UN and are usually characterized by the coming together of a wide range of stakeholders, including the government, young people, youth groups, and development partners, for various activities. This year's International Youth Day global theme is "𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭." This theme is intended to celebrate the power of youth and digital innovation in harnessing technology to create sustainable solutions for world's most pressing challenges. It highlights the key connection between digitalization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in this transformative process. As we have started our national level preparations, the team is expected to contextualize the global theme to fit Malawi's local context. https://lnkd.in/dbrjB49s

🌍 Reflecting on how young people in Namibia can be included in driving positive change 🌟 As I look back on my experiences in Namibia, I am truly inspired by the incredible potential and passion that young people possess. They are the driving force behind positive change and hold the key to shaping a brighter future for our beautiful country. In order to harness this potential, it is essential that we create inclusive opportunities for young Namibians to actively participate in driving positive change. Here are a few thoughts on how we can make this happen: 1️⃣ Education and Skill Development: 2️⃣ Access to Resources and Opportunities: 3️⃣ Collaboration and Partnerships: 4️⃣ Amplifying Youth Voices: 5️⃣ Mentoring and Role Models: Together, let’s create a future where young people in Namibia are not only included but are at the forefront of driving positive change. Let’s join forces and create a brighter future together! 🤝💡 #YouthEmpowerment #PositiveChange #Namibia #BrighterFuture

From international #volunteering and #youth development, I transitioned into #peacebuilding and student exchange programs at Sarus. Sarus Programs is a peacebuilding organization that runs exchange programs, provides peace education, and fosters mutual understanding between countries with histories of conflict. Its concept is simple yet powerful: bring together young people from neighboring countries, create an environment where they live and work together on service projects, and equip them with tools to address and transform conflicts. Through this experience, participants confront their own identities, discover their shared humanity, and develop peacebuilding skills they can use in daily life. One of the most impactful activities—and my personal favorite—was the Circle ⭕️ Meeting. Every two days during the exchange, staff and participants sat together in a circle to reflect on their individual and collective experiences. Challenges were addressed, and conflicts were named. At first, these meetings felt awkward and uncomfortable. But over time, they became deeply meaningful, fostering trust and connection. Later, I learned this approach is called the “Way of Council,” a transformative method used in education to heal from within, resolve conflicts, and build community. Sarus marked the beginning of my deep connection with Cambodia—a journey that extended far beyond my work with my first colleagues there: Wesley Hedden, Sourmolivann Lip, Phyrun, sylvia murray, Nga Nguyen and Hnin Thazin Soe. For my first two years, I led the Vietnam side of the Sarus Exchange Program. Sarus is also where I began envisioning how international experience programs for students from developing countries could work. Instead of sending students far away to countries with significantly higher living costs, why not bring them to neighboring countries where the program is much more affordable? Sarus programs, funded largely through grants and annual fundraising campaigns, exemplified this approach, making life-changing experiences accessible to more participants. #InternationalEducationWeek #IEW2024 #InternationalVolunteer #PeaceBuilding #PeaceEducation #YouthDevelopment #ExchangeProgram #CircleMeeting #WayOfCouncil #CommunitCircle #ServiceLearning

📢 The power of youth empowerment lies in its ability to harness the energy, creativity, and passion of young people to drive positive change in society. Empowering youth means providing them with the knowledge, skills, resources and opportunities to actively participate in decision-making processes and to take ownership of their future.🗳️🌟 #namibianeedsme #strenghteningdemocraticparticipation #nextgeneration #NNM #namyouth4change #init2gether #futureleaders #educateyourself #namibiamycountry #youthadvocacy #democracy4namibia #iplaymypart #namibia Disclaimer: This project Namibia Needs Me is funded by the EU.
