Happy World Habitat Day! 🌏🌳 Originally created by the United Nations to highlight the need for safe and sustainable habitats for people, this day has also become an important reminder for the wildlife community. It’s a time to reflect on the impact humans have on native animal habitats. Climate change, deforestation, and other factors are pushing many vulnerable species closer to extinction. Australia is home to over a million unique plant and animal species that depend on our diverse ecosystems. Now, more than ever, we must take steps to protect these special environments. Here’s how you can help: 🌲 Preserve living and dead hollow-bearing trees 🌲 Keep fallen trees in place on the ground and in creeks 🌲 Safeguard vegetation that produces hollows 🌲 Maintain native vegetation along rivers and creeks 🌲 Install nesting boxes for local wildlife Every small action makes a difference! 💚

Today, the world is celebrating Earth Hour Day, an annual event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness about environmental issues. This year marks the 18th Earth Hour, with the theme-Uniting for Our One Shared Home. The biggest Earth Hour encourages people worldwide to turn off their lights for 60 minutes from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as a symbolic gesture of support for our planet. The objective is to engage as many individuals as possible, especially those who may not yet be fully aware of the environmental crisis we face. To commemorate Earth Hour, a special anthem has been released by WWF, composed by Shantanu Moitra and sung by Papon. The lyrics by Tanveer Ghazi evoke the beauty of nature and the shared responsibility we all have in protecting it. In a world where cutting down a tree is still more profitable than leaving it standing, Wildlife Works aims to flip the paradigm with market-based solutions. WWF’s Living Planet Report revealed that wildlife species’ populations have, on average, declined by 69% since 1970. One of the major drivers of this continual decline is human-wildlife conflict, i.e., competition for land and resources.
